Mu builder had a empty shoppe this week so I thought great, lets do my cam chest. Nice S&S gear driven 585's Fueling cam plate, pump, bearings, rocker support bracket, S&S push rods and nice tune. Easy Peasy Japaneasy right. WRONG!!!! The crank was out to 0.009" thou. Bike has 17000 miles on it and the shape of the cam chest was atrocious. Major scoring on the cam lobes, the lifters, and the tip of the crank that sits in that brass bushing in the cam plate. looks like we caught it just in time!!! So, the hole engine is coming apart and getting the works now.
New Pistons SE flat tops 0.010 over.
Crank bearings, trued and welded
Heads will get some additional milling along with the pistons for clearance to get a true 10.5 : 1 comp. ( Porting was already done )
Then the 585 gear driven cams, Fueling cam plate, oil pump, Fueling lifters, S&S push rods and a tune.
All in, this will cost about $5000.00 Canadian. I know I know, could of got the 120 R I think I will have a very good solid reliable engine in the end, and I cant say the same for the 120 R. Will probably have to do the same sheezat to it 20,000 miles down the road. That would really piss me off. This, repair I can kind of tolerate and justify as performance upgrades. Makes me sleep better at night. What do you guys think?
