Well......... finally got them on and finished tonight. Got a little touch in the brake pedal area but will try and correct that tomorrow. Long and short of it: I really like the pipes. I installed a K&N air filter, Bassani header pipes, V&H Oval Mufflers, and the SERT with MAP #84. Took her for a test ride and have two words to describe the overall initial performance: holy s**t!

The bike runs so much smoother. I was out on a 4 lane highway and got on her a little and hit 105 as I shifted into 6th gear........ wheres the "6" light?? Something wrong, did I mess up some wires?? Nope, was actually shifting into 5th! Man, I hope it stays this way. I know the SERT is not a favorite of a lot of folks here but I cannot see changing to any other. The initial Tip In Throttle response was greatly improved, low end torgue, hell anywhere torgue is awesome. I would recommend that you have it done by your dealer or local shop as long as they have experience with them. I am hoping the fuel mileage will be okay but I can tell you it will not be that great for a tank or two as I cannot help but twist on the throttle a little more than usual.

Bottom line on the fitment issue: I think for the trade out in performance, the brake pedal issue will be worth it. I want to try and save the billet brake pedal but if that does not work I will go with a SoftBrake brake lever as it is extended and lays down with is a lot better than stock performance wise and will clear the pipes easy. I will post a pic of it below along with a phone camera pic of the pipes with the "power curve". Thank you all so much for your words of encouragement and ideas.  Rob

Well I was ablie to grind (yes.... grrrrrind) the backside of the brake pedal to make it stop hitting the pipe altogether! I then taped it off and painted the bare area with chrome aluminum paint to keep it from rusting. This setup is so smooth and powerful.  [smiley=jalapeno.gif] [smiley=banana.gif] [smiley=jalapeno.gif] [smiley=banana.gif] [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

The heat shield on the Rineharts is notched to allow clearance in this area.  Wonder why Bassani doesn't do the same?  I doubt the notch would be very noticeable on a non-CVO with the standard brake pedal. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

The Bassanis come with only 3 heat shields, the other 2 are used from the stock shields.

Rob...glad you got the problem taken care of!!  Looks good and nobody will know it but you.  Glad you're happy with the way the scoot is performing as well.

Thanks TC. I havent been able to take it on a decent ride yet as my wife is still healing (doing real well) from her neck surgery. I am going on a Bikes on Parade ride from Ocala to and thru Gainesville so I should get some all around riding; interstate, city, stop and go etc. I'll let ya know how it goes heat wise and all when I get back.

Any temp readings yet. It was really warm here in St Pete yesterday(82) Did a poker run and the Jester was really warm. I wonder what MoCo feels is too much heat?

Woop,

When I got to Gville (about 40 miles via Interstate 75 two up she did seem a bit hot. Got off after sitting at idle for 10-12 minutes in line and shot the temp gauge: 396 rear, 296 front. I only have 850 ish miles on her though. I was getting what I thought was a spark knock from the front cylinder in 5th gear at about 2,000 RPM's. I hooked my laptop to the SERT after work today and took a recorded ride (gotta love that SERT). Ran thru the gears held her at 50 mph, 5th gear, 2,000 rpm and rattle, rattle, rattle. Went on down the road ran her up goooood. Came back saved the data and replayed it. Checked the Engine speed (rpm), knock retarder front, knock retarder rear, and vehicle speed (gotta lovr that SERT). Only had as much as 2 degrees on the front only (knock retard) and nothing on the rear and it was not at the 50 mph, 2,000 rpm range. High speed was 101 at 5250 RPM. Determined that "spark knock" must be the infamous 5th gear tranny noise all are referring to. Drop down a gear, kick the RPM's up a few hundred and it goes away. Guess I just need to adjust my driving style a little to get used to the 6 speed is all. I will also use a different oil on my 3,500 mile service as dealer is to do the 1,000 mile service as part of the prep fee I paid for when purchasing the bike. I'll change it again 2500 after that with the oils mentioned in the SYNTHETIC OIL post. I really like this bike and this 84 SERT MAP, I hope I can get control of this heat issue by next summer!! Did I mention I really like the SERT?

Robmay,

Yer damn well killin' me here with the "how much you like" SERT stuff.  ;D

I'll trying to hold out for the Zippers ECM and closed loop system but it is harder every day.  I may end up with SERT (84 map) and the Twin Scan II+ Tuning Aid for SERT.  Got my V&H TD and Ovals, A/N Super Sucker all sitting in the garage waiting for install, all the while running an engine that is 250+ oil temp degrees running (at best) here in Houston.  (my 05 road king ran about 210 over the same runs).  I would be a little nervous about putting my laptop in my tourpak while doing a road test.... you brave soul!

I've got 4500 miles on the bike so far so I'm used to the 5th gear whine....

Now, tell us more of what you think about your SERT......

Mines not a whine but a rattle. I'll live with it by running higher RPM's I guess. I like to lug a little  around town and two up it is more prominent. I don't mind shifting up and down when I'm alone but I try to keep the ride as smooth as possible when mama's on board!!!

Give me a S
Give me a E
Give me a R
Give me a T

The more I learn about it......the more I like it! (did I mentioned I really like the SERT)?

Thanks for the data. I really like my bike but feel very strongly that I need to get the temps down. I base this "too hot" feeling on the heat generated by my 01 Ultra and my 05 FatBoy. I sure was hoping that your temps would go down with the new A/C and the pipes but I guess not. We'll keep working it.

BTW, do you really like that SERT??!!!

Don't have the infared but do have led oil dipstick temp reads 212 after 11/2 hour ride same as my 2000 road king was running with mods and the 07 cuse is still stock with 335 miles. Is your's running hotter?  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Not sure about the oil temps but I can feel the heat rising up after a good ride then stop. I would imagine it to be pretty uncomfortable in the hotter times of the year. I never checked the temps on my 05 Ultra or my 03 Standard EG but they did not feel hot like this after break in. I am hoping that once it breaks in with the pipes, AC and mufflers and SERT it will get within range like my other bikes. I also never kept the leg farings on my 05 Ultra so that probably makes a difference.
