Another baseless grapevine rumor... Apparently some V-Rod pressure caps were erroneously shipped to York and were put on some ShowerHead Touring bikes... thus creating a problem with loosing coolant. One cap is gray and the other is black. The V-Rod caps have lower pressure ratings than the ShowerHead bikes do...

Hmmm... Nice inventory checking, MoCo... if it's true!

Gray, black.  Dunno, the cap on mine is silver?  Just the typical silver metal color like many radiator caps on cars have.

Ok now I know this is going to make everyone very happy!!!!! The MOCO stopped shipping the WATER HEAD a month ago till they could get a fix on the problems. My Buddy who is a Master Tech saw his HD Rep last Friday at the Dealership. The Rep was happy to announce that they  have started shipping the Water Head again and that they found a fix to the overheating problem. Good news right???

So He asks the Rep what did they do to fix the problem???? The Reps response was I CAN'T TELL YOU!!!!! ARE YOU F%$king KIDDING ME?????? This is the person that may work on your bike for service or warranty problems and they won't release the info to him!!!! I have heard it all now. He did ask the Rep is it you don't know or you just can't tell us? The Rep said I just can't tell you!!!!

As soon as the Dealer gets their next Water Head I will know what they did to fix the overheating problem. He is going to hook it up to the DT and see what was changed. Thank God he took a lot of notes when they were setting up the first batch.

I love my Harley Davidsons and always have, I have had very little warranty work on any of my bikes. Yes I do a lot OF CHANGES to them to make them MINE!!!!! But I think the MOCO should start thinking a little more about the people that support them.

If anyone mentioned it I must have missed it but are we all getting programmed to think it's OK to purchase a new expensive/improved bike and have it at the dealers for one week!  We have been accustomed to continually have to leave our bikes for an extended amount of time at the dealership for some kind of recall/repair or do it ourselves if qualified.  Some have had good fortune while others have been through this way to many times to feel good about the improvements/changes.  It would have been great public relations if the 2014's were trouble free and gave the consumer the confidence to make another purchase, especially in the rough economic times we are in.  There are much smarter people on this site that stick with the older models for one reason or another.  I have decided to use that as a gauge for my next purchase, we all have choices & that would be mine.   Personally I like the looks and some of the features but I also have to look at what I really want my next bike to do for me.  I would like to have the confidence to go across the country time and time again and pack on the miles to go past the 100,000 mile mark and then some with minimum maintenance and repairs.   Harley stands alone in the looks department, the merchandising of products is unmatched, reliability not so much for the most part and at this stage in my life that is what I need the most.   Down deep I have always had a fondness for the Iconic V-Twin & that will most likely never change.  I think most of us are pulling for the MOCO to get it right and turn the direction for the hard core high mileage type of rider, but if there is no need why make the change when cosmetics & merchandising can get the job done.   I hope the problems are minimal & folks who purchased 2014's get the bike that fits their needs.

If Harley continues down the same path they have for years Indian might have a chance to take some market share and give HD the sucker punch they need to wake up.  My sense is that HD riders are getting tired of the same old BS with the bikes.

I have kept my 2004 for that reason. While the 04's had a chrome issue ( mine are just starting to show up) I really didn't have that problem back in the day. There also was the problem with flywheels which we all still have. My 04 has for the most part been flawless. I love my 12 Ultra and have had no problems YET!!!! I do want to go through the motor this winter and make it bullet proof. But that is not because I have to but because I choose too.

As the info comes in I will keep everyone posted. By far this is the most complaining I have heard from my friend EVER!!! He has told me the assembly of these bikes now are by far the worse he has ever seen. It seems the MOCO will try to save at the factory by hiring non Union assemblers and save money but turn around and spend it back at the dealer getting the bikes right. When will the bean counters ever learn. For us true to heart to the MOCO I think the Indian is out savior!!!! After losing a good part of the American market share maybe they will wake up!!!!!

He works at a dealer and made the statement "Since the MOCO has cut back on Union Workers at the Assembly Plant quality has dropped" It now takes him longer to set up a new bike fixing what the assemblers didn't do at all or didn't do right. I did see evidence of that on my 2012 SEULTRA!!!!!

Yeah, I am sure he think that is what it is, but union or no union quality comes down to process and process control, doesn't matter if a monkey is turning the wrenches. (As long as you keep the monkey trained and accountable)

Why would he believe that a "Union" worker would do a better job?

The Union makes the product more expensive because of the ridicules rules they have negotiated in their contract's. Was not so successful for GM and Chrysler either  :2vrolijk_21:

I am as upset with the MoCo about quality issues as anyone...with that said, I don't understand the attack on Union labor. A big part of Harley Davidson's foundation has been American labor. Before anyone tells me that Harleys have a lot of part coming outside of American, I agree 100%. IMHO every single Harley should be made with 100% American made parts. Every single peace of HD clothing should be made in America. Union labor has always been something that most Harley riders were proud of, I blame management for the issues. It's management that is sourcing parts outside of the country.

If Harley worried a bit more about production sourcing than their stock price we would all be better off. I and many I know would really support the HD line of clothing more if it was made in the USA. Imagine a marketing program stating EVERYTHING MADE IN THE USA. If much of it is made with Union labor, that would even be better. I love to think that the people doing the work are earning a living wage and have benefits. Hopefully they can afford to ride a Harley themselves

I totally agree with you. All tough I'm not an American I prefer to buy American product made in USA and not in China. The best example are "Schott" jackets. If you compare them with HD riding jackets for material and craftsmanship, they are miles away. It cost me like hell to bring it here, pay Costom, import taxes, etc. but, it worth every dime.

Really not sure what Union has to do with it.  Me personally, I think there was a time when unions were needed.  That time has long since passed.  Union or not, Moco has some production, and quality control issues they need to address.  As a stock holder, I'm sure they will figure it out.  Love my 2014 CVO even with the hicups.
