Paul Yaffe CVO Stealth III LED's dying?
« on: October 27, 2013, 02:31:15 AM »

I dont see this anywhere on the internet as a problem yet... however I have an issue with mine.. of the original 6 (I think) LED's that illuminate the plate, I have one remaining LED lit...

I have contacted Yaffe and they were supposed to email me a RA number but I havent gotten it yet.

Kind of a bummer I need to take it off... and bend the plate straight, put it back on the original mount then reverse the procedure when I get the new one...

I hope this isnt a yearly occurrence. :huepfenlol2:

Check on the other forums, Yaffee seems to have a slow time getting around to warranty. You apparently have to become a pest to get any results.

Maybe replacing the LED's on my own is less of a PITA than sending it out and waiting for a replacement.

Just bought a second one to replace it with then I can play with the LEDs to fix them (or change color, etc)

I am in the process of adding more light to mine. There are two tiny LEDs on each side epoxied into a recess in the outer plate. I have tried to find small enough ones to fit in the recess but no luck yet. I am having a small bracket made to hold additional lighting aimed at the plate which in mock up works very well. Part of the problem seems to be the embossed letters on the Ohio plate. The lighting is so close to the plate that the embossing blocks the light from reaching the bottom of the plate. I would have to agree that Yaffe is not concerned with helping as they told me to initiate a warranty claim with who I bought it from and couldn't even tell me where they sourced the LEDs that they used because everything was made over seas. I love the look with it color keyed but it definitely needs better lighting.

I thought mine had 3 LEDs per side... I'll figure it out when I get it off.

The technology is evolving with LEDs and I have a buddy who does small scale Photovoltaic lighting systems using LED lights... said he would check it out for me as well as provide me some lighting for my truck topper while we were doing it.

For now, since my inspectionm is due this month I'll put the stock license plate mount on it then take the time to figure it out.

The LEDs on my Yaffe Stealth III died as well.  Has anyone come up with a good solution yet?  Think I will try to find some white LEDs at the local autozone and just replace them.  Maybe the easiest way to go.  Just checking what you guys may have done.

Thanks. Once I pull the it off the bike this weekend I will determine if it's something that can be repaired.

Awesome. I am interested in this also. Both of the Leds on the right side of mine are dead and the 2 on the left are really dim.

Jesse,

They make them smaller and larger as well. Solder wires to them and then use silicone to form a waterproof seal should fix the issue.  Certainly worth a try considering what you had to pay for the Yaffe item.
