Garage door opener-----------Setup
« on: November 18, 2013, 04:31:02 PM »

 :confused5:

I just traded in my CVO Ultra,  but I kept the GDO receiver in my garage hooked up.  As part of the deal,  I got the dealer to include a GDO transmitter for the bike I bought.

Now,  I cannot find in the owners manual,  the setup (how to) code the whole deal,  so that when I flip the high beam switch,  it will trigger my garage door.

Anyone have those details. :nixweiss:

I don't understand why the tech's don't pre par the bikes to the receiver. It is also a great way to make sure the bike is setup correct. In this case the dealership would ask the customer to bring in his receiver with the bike, that way the tech could take care of the final setup. All the customer would need to do is plug the receiver back in and re-attach the two wires.

I purchased the GDO kit and had my dealer make the bike install. Unknown to me, the tech had made a mistake in the setup; I installed the receiver and spent a lot of time trying to figure out why the opener would not work. It takes two people to par the bike and receiver. Finally I took the bike back and mentioned that it would be better if they pre-checked to make sure installation was correct by pre paring the bike and receiver, once completed it took me two minutes to complete the setup.

The touring bikes should be pre-wired for the garage door opener kit, it should be as simple as opening the fairing and plugging in the part. IMHO, the MoCo is behind the curve on this.

Jerry,

Thanks,  I printed out the needed page and should be able to make it function.  Playing golf tomorrow so doing the deal will happen likely Wed.   I expect it to work OK,  we will see.

Harley is light years behind the curve, but they don't care.  What they should do is install a motorcycle version of Homelink that can  be set up to work directly with the door opener without a separate receiver.  The car folks have been doing it for a long time.

Agree 100%. I wonder if they do what they can to make sure the techs at the dealerships keep busy, helps the dealerships make money adding features most of us want.

Wouldn't surprise me.  Look how many of us have to change handlebars, seats, windshields, shocks, etc. to get a decent fit.  I think MoCo deliberately designs the bikes to fit that one person in the world who has average everything...average height, arm span, inseam, and torso length.  Then they can sell us all the replacements, at least until we figure out HD sells low-performance knock-offs of aftermarket designs.   / :soapbox:
