Need opinions on the value of this CVO
« on: November 22, 2013, 03:46:31 PM »

I am selling a 78 Trans Am and a guy wants to trade his 2010 CVO streetglide in on it.  It has 40,000 miles, motor rebuilt 2000 miles ago due to crank failure.  Has lowers, tourpac with LEDS all the original CVO extras(key cover etc) I haven't seen the bike but it's supposed to be nice.  I can verify the engine work.  Here are some pictures.

Need an idea what I can sell this bike for?  Is mid 20's out of the question?

I think NADA has it Low Retail $20,629 and Average Retail $27,193.  I would think the 40,000miles with and engine rebuild would put the value at the lower end. Unless you can document a quailty engine rebuild. The "Spiced Rum" SE Street Glide was in high demand back in the day. Good Luck!

Sadly real world sell prices may put that bike down to the high $18,000 maybe low $19,000. I am no expert...JMO!

I can document the engine build, I talked to the Harley dealer that did the work.  The bike also comes with a 5 year extended warranty.

My car is worth a solid $25,000 so I'm asking the guy to kick in money on the deal.

I can't believe I had 69 views and 1 opinion.   ??? ??? ???

I do thank you for your opinion!

I don't think the 2010's had the following the 11's and 12's do.  This bike does have some pluses, Tour pack and lowers.

I guess I'll wait and see what happens.  Don't care if I do the deal or not.

Maybe others will chime in. Even if that bike had low miles and no motor rebuild it would be desirable to a small group of buyers. I dont think it would get anywhere close to the 25k that your car is worth. The 11's and 12's I think had a few more bells and goodies. I assume you are looking to resale the 2010 SESG. If it was me the buyer would need to kick in 4 or 5K to complete the deal. Real world prices are low right now and may be for a while.
I saw nobody else had a comment, so I just looked it up. Didnt have much else to do. No problem at all. Good Luck!

i wouldn't do it unless you were really wanting the bike itself.  if you just plan on selling it, then let him sell it and give you cash.

The only reason I'm even considering it is because of the Tour pack, Lowers; motor build and warranty.  I think that adds a little over a stock 10 CVOSG.

I am going to sell it not keep it.  I have an 11 CVOSG which I like a lot better.

My gut say's the bike might bring 21 to 23K on a good day with all things considered but I could be wrong.

That makes me cringe when I think what I have invested in my 2011.   :o

If you are doing this as a money deal I think you are pretty high on the 21 to 23K thinking unless you find that person that "falls in love"
If you want to know what the actual cash value of the bike is then contact a couple of dealers and ask them what they would write you check for if you brought it to them to sell it. Since its not your bike you won't be personally invested in what they say (because its probably way less then you are thinking) and you will at least know what the "turn dollars" are to b able to make a educated decision on the deal. If you do the deal and sell it yourself, anything you get above the numbers the dealers give you will be "gravy".

The scooter has several good things that most SESG's don't....a Tourpak & 5yr warrenty from now. 40k miles will stop a lot of buyers in their tracks. If you know you can get 25k for the Pontiac and its strickly a money deal, sell the car............unless he will bring 6k to the table. JMHO

That's what I was wondering. :2vrolijk_21:

I hate trade deals because you're never really sure how you're going to come out.  Have you seen the bike or just pics?  Most people can flat wear stuff out in 40,000 miles.  I'd be very concerned about the actual condition of the SESG if you haven't laid eyes on it.  Even if you did, $25,000 is waaaay too much for it unless you just love it and plan to keep it.   since your plan is to flip it, I like the bike + $6,000 deal that 2k threw out.

40k miles is nothing to car folks or even some other brands of bike folks, but with many Harley's 40k is nearly worn out.  Evidence of that statement can be found in many threads on this site, as well as the fact that this particular bike has already required an engine rebuild.  If you look at the NADA or KBB sites the typical mileage for a 2010 would be closer to 18k, not 40k, so you need to factor that into your equation.  If it were me and I was just taking it to turn around and resell, I wouldn't put more into it than mileage adjusted trade in value, not retail value.  You could be sitting on it for quite awhile unless you leave yourself some negotiating room.  In other words, I'd be looking at no more than upper teens.

The poor guy paid $26,900 for it a year ago and then bought the warranty on top of that.  Then he added 10" bars.  The bike has it's positives but everyone is right, 40,000 miles is a huge negative.

I think I'll keep my T/A.  I have 3 of them so I thought I would get rid of one and use the money for something else.  I'll just wait until the right deal comes along.

Now you are talking smart, sounds like you don't want to hurt his feelings by asking him for 6k on top of what he already has in. You don't sound like the average used car thief salesman!!
