2010 SEUC 110 Cam Chest Findings at 33,000 Miles w/pictures
« on: November 22, 2013, 06:17:43 PM »

BIKE-  2010 SEUC, 33,000 miles, Decatted stock headpipe, stock mufflers/baffles, SE open back air filter, TTS map by Fullsac, original owner.   Motor has been quiet since new and was quiet before being tore down.  Not Honda quiet but not noisey like a lot of people report and I hear well and has stock bafles.

RIDER-  Ran between 2200 and 4000 rpm's..  Never let drop below 2200 rpm's in any gear so not to lug.  Never been to red line.  Have a passenger about 50% of the time, and sometimes pull a Bushtec on trips.

TEAR DOWN REASON-  Read horror stories of engines being taken out by lifters at way less miles than this.  Didn't want to become one of them.

A special thanks to Scott (Sadunbar) who has been great in answering questions giving advice thru PM's..

There will be about 10  posts/pictures so if you have a comment/advice, please wait til the end.

Picture of bike torn down with a garage sale sign that didn't read out.  That's the way I feel about the bike at this time.
Had AK20's on the 05 and transferred them to this bike so they are at Traxxion for regular maintenance.

Tightened the steering neck bearings 1 notch while the radio was out installing Heat Demons in the bar ends as the fine HD grips crapped out.

Picture of the crank end.  Crank runout was .003 measured by a Feuling dial indicator/plate.  Polished the end of the crank where had marks and cleaned up nice.

Steve at Fullsac was adamant about not cutting the stock pushrods so the tank and top end was removed.

Lifters were not all the way grey but not chrome anymore.  They turned freely and had a little side to side play.  Scott advised me to lift the roller up and down on the pin-The rear cylinder exhaust lifter is worn out.

A picture of the 255 cams.  Not worn but grey and not chrome anymore.

The cam plate has a aluminum ridge rolled over at 5:00 in the picture.

Here is another problem-The outer hydraulic tensioner shoe looked new but the inside one had the piston thru the tensioner shoe.

Another reason I tore down as last oil change had microscopic metal shavings on the drain plug.  Cut oil filter apart with oil filter cutter and found about 5 particles in the pleats with a magnet.

Changed the inner bearings to full needles as they came with the Heartland tools I had purchased.

All in all, I am really disappointed in Harley's flagship model.  I will never purchase another CVO from them  now that they approach $40,000..  What a joke.  I hope Harley monitors this forum.  This is really sad.

 :soapbox:

Had to take a picture of my beloved 2003 Kubota tractor with 850 hours and the original battery.  All I do is change oil and filter and fluids and lube-knock wood.  Prouder of it than my CVO-just me-it is a quality piece from bumper to 3 point hitch.

So what to order.

I will go with Andrews 54's from Fullsac as that is my riding style.  I don't want to pull the heads for .030 Cometics as then the cylinder base orings would be disturbed and I am not up for that.  Will use Steve's Cometic cam gasket kit.

Will use S&S premium lifters without limiters.  Everyone says Woods are noisey on startup-not going to happen.  Would try Gaterman's if they weren't made in China.

Don't know what oil pump or cam plate I will use-don't know about Axtel bypass.

Will probably use Zipper's Tensioners.

Will probably add Fullsac's DX headpipe and quiet 1.75 baffles.

I know that I will use the minimum of anything that the MOCO can profit from me on.

Like I stated before, this is "fing" ridiculous for me to be doing this.  Thanks for reading this far.  I'm done.

Bob, that sucks :( and enough to piss you off royally. >:( Good luck in getting it all worked out and running better (longer). Don't blame you a bit for looking at the aftermarket for replacement parts... I have found myself doing that more and more lately. I remember prior to getting my SEEG I would only buy MoCo chrome accessories due to them "claiming" their chroming process was above and beyond all others.... well... we know how true that is... not!!!

Damn, Bob.  Part of me feels good about going into mine at just 3,000 miles.  The other part of me feels no one is safe from this chitty motor design. :-\  At least your runout was good. :nixweiss:
