I experienced leaks three times,I never overheated. This bike runs much cooler than my 07 CVO ultra. No comparison.
He isn't talking about YOU overheating, he's talking about the coolant system overheating.
There were issues with the clamps, other issues with the thermostat housing, issues with the pressure caps (which were likely tied in with this filler neck issue), and then there were issues where the fans didn't operate as originally designed. When you have a very tiny quantity of fluid (1 quart) to absorb and transfer all that heat from the exhaust side of the heads, it doesn't take long for the pressure to build and force fluid out the overflow if the fans don't run when they're supposed to.
Anyhow, I
think the point being made by dlaws01 and DCFIREMAN was that this "Product Program" only seems to be addressing one of the several reported failure causes, so your earlier comment about the program ("This should take care of the coolant issue once and for all.") isn't necessarily true. It sounds like something Harley or one of it's dealers might say, but that doesn't make it so if you know what I mean.
I think it would behoove us to wait to read the actual Service Bulletin that will eventually be published for this program, and to wait for some real world feedback after the "upgrades", before declaring this issue fixed for good. I personally hope that is the case, for all those who bought one, but based on past experiences with H-D I can't help but be a bit cynical. Hopefully they will contact ALL the folks who purchased a Twin Cooled bike prior to the cut-off date and provide ALL the various fixes that have been added to the production bikes.
