As someone noted already, the insurance Harley pushes isn't from any one single company. They are just like any other independent insurance agent, they line you up with one of several companies. These days I question why you would want to include a middle man like H-D in your insurance coverage when you can go directly to the various companies that do business in your state and get quotes directly on the internet. You may assume H-D would look out for you and get you the best rate, but that would be a very foolish assumption.
Progressive used to be the best company for motorcycle insurance in my state by far, but several years ago they jacked their rates up exponentially and I bid them farewell. Then I had Foremost, which offered excellent coverage at the best price for a few years, whereupon they also decided to do a little profiteering and I bid them farewell. At present GEICO has the best combination of coverage and price in my area. The point I'm trying to make is that you need to do your homework every year and the internet makes it so much easier to compare coverage and prices there is no excuse to just stay with one company and let them screw you. Have you ever wondered how all those insurance companies can make the same claims about saving you XXX dollars if you switch to them? It's easy, they all offer a lower price the first year and then the creeping rate inflation sets in. Even though the value of the car or bike goes down each year and therefore their exposure for repair and replacement decreases, the premiums rise steadily.
You need to check coverage details and prices for your specific state and locality, rather than ask folks from across the country what they think. Each company sets rates by states and even by zip codes, and often have differences in coverage by location as well.
