Side bag protection bars
« on: February 21, 2014, 02:57:00 PM »

I have a 2011 Ultra Classic C.V.O.. THE BARS THAT PROTECT THE SIDE BAGS ARE RUBBING ON MY WIFES LEGS BEHIND HER THIGHS. I SEE THAT THERE ARE REPLACEMENT BARS AVAILABLE FOR ALMOST ANY BIKE HARLEY BUILDS EXEPT FOR THE C.V.O ULTRA CLASSIC.THERE IS ALSO A BAR FOR A REGULAR ULTRA CLASSIC. THE PARTS BOOK SAYS REPLACES BARS EXEPT THE C.V.O.'S. ANYONE KNOW WHY THEY WON'T FIT AND IF I HAVE ANY OPTIONS AT ALL. OF COURSE THE PARTS GUY SAYS I DON'T KNOW OF ANY OPTIONS. the new 2014 bikes have a bar that slopes down and would be perfect but they say those won't fit the older bikes like mine.

Believe it or not , these seem to help my back seat rider. Also you can adjust the rear foot platforms .

My BSR barely stands 5' in her boots... I had to just keep adjusting the boards until it was more comfortable, and in the process eliminated the leg contact.

Thank for posting this Waynel, we have the same problem. Glad to see that there are other options than getting a new bike. :^). Relocating tbe rear boards should take care of the problem but I think I'll change bars as well.

I did adjust the floor boards and it is still a problem. Looks like those bars will work even though it doesn't say they fit my bike. Thanks Phato1 I will get a set like you have. They look like they will do the job

Yea CVO Thunder, I love my 2011 and a half. I think they are the best looking that has come out of Harley in a long time I do not want to buy a new bike either. I am looking into when my motor craps out to rig up the water cooled heads and lowers to hold the coolant bottles on my bike :2vrolijk_21:

The reason the bars you mentioned in your first post don't fit a CVO is they don't have the mounting brackets for the filler strips that mount between the fender and bags on a CVO

Your welcome. FWIW the parts manager at my dealer thought they would fit but he wasn't entirely sure so he let me take a set home to try and lo and behold they fit fine. I went back to see him the following day to tell him they fit great - and pay for them. My wife is only 5'1" and after getting the boards adjusted so her leg angle was comfortable these bag guards were just the ticket to eliminate the contact point on her calf/lower leg and as you probably know if momma aint happy nobody is.

Phato1, looks like your back floorboards are in their original position. When mine were in that position they were in my way when I put my feet down at stop signs and such do you have that problem. Ordered my bars today.

The passenger boards did get in the way but I swapped them left to right, which gives me just a bit more room. It might seem crazy, but now they don't hit my legs.

You might be able to tell by looking at the passenger board in this photo, although it looks like you've already done that.

I have just changed them on my FLHTCUSE for the same reason, I used the sloping ones for a Roadking and they fitted straight on. Alternatively you can use Roadking Custom ones and that gets rid of the bar altogether and just keeps the bottom support bar.

Phato, yes I have turned them already and it did help. Had to adjust them a few times for the wife to be happy.
