Billet cam plate & high volume oil pump
« on: March 11, 2014, 09:17:54 AM »

I like reliable and smooth but don't want to just throw $420 away. Is this of value for guys with 115 hp motors?  Looks cool

I upgraded while I was there, because it was done on ESP, I used the SE upgraded parts.

My cam plate was scarred up was it was a no brainer.

They say it pumps up 20-30% more oil then stock unit.

Have the Fueling oil pump and the billet cam plate. Oil pressure in at 25 to 30 psi at idle now. It used to drop to almost zero with stock. So it works.   And guess what, I gained 60 hp and 300fpt as a result.  :huepfenlol2:

That's awesome power gains!  It's good you didn't add those 20hp boosting spark plugs or run nitrogen in your tires or that thing would be a beast!

I bought two oil pumps and cam plates.  One to store in each saddlebag.  With them there my bike now goes on its own to Bonneville and sets land speed records; on mostly worn stock tires.... in only 1/4 mile runs................. with a headwind.  It's awesome.

In case the previous posts weren't clear enough, no it isn't worth $420 in a street bike.  The stock oil pump has all the volume needed, and the stock cam plates are fine as well.  The Harley aftermarket is full of "billet this, billet that" because they know how typical Harley owners are easy prey when it comes to certain buzzwords like "billet".  If they could con people into believing there was such a thing as a billet tire you can bet they would start selling them tomorrow for twice the already inflated prices.

Btw, pushing more oil into the engine than it was originally designed to handle is not a good thing.  For instance, running more than about 15-20 psi at idle just means the piston cooling jets will be dumping excess oil into the crankcase all the time, and the bypass system will be dumping most of the extra volume back to the inlet side of the pump, causing more shearing and aeration of the oil.  And if you do force a bunch of excess oil up into the heads without changing the breather and oil drainback system to match, you could easily create a carryover problem or make an existing problem worse.  My point is that an engines oiling system is just that, an engineered system.  If you don't have a problem currently, there is no need to screw with it.  If you do have an oiling problem, it would be best to find the cause of the problem and fix that, versus wasting money on a plate and pump that may not fix the real problem.

Hey with out the billet cam plate you can not run the see through cam cover. And life is not worth living if you cant see your cams and billet parts all working in unison.

Did some one say "Billet Tires"??? :mango:

In the 113 117 Build we were going with the stock plate (w/Axtell Bypass Valve) and Pump, until the opportunity presented itself to upgrade to the Feuling Plate / Pump for about $100.
It then became a no-brainer.  :bananarock:

I did find it hilarious that Feuling claims 3-4 hp  :huepfenlol2:

Dont think its needed either.
But its nice to say you got one thats....billet
the stock cam plate is just fine for high miles. I dont think the SE is for high miles. I put one in a dresser with 255 cams. About 7k later we rebuilt the engine for 555 cams and noticed that the cam already worn a groove in the bushing..so we are going to check on things again soon and see if its worse.

I pondered the same question. Time for tensioners and decided to upgrade to the billet cam plate and high volume oil pump. After talking to several people that know more about the subject than I, it was determined that if it ain't broke, don't fix it.  :soapbox:

That applies to almost everything with the exception of stock lifters.  Replace before they break.  :drink:
