I like reliable and smooth but don't want to just throw $420 away. Is this of value for guys with 115 hp motors? Looks cool
In case the previous posts weren't clear enough, no it isn't worth $420 in a street bike. The stock oil pump has all the volume needed, and the stock cam plates are fine as well. The Harley aftermarket is full of "billet this, billet that" because they know how typical Harley owners are easy prey when it comes to certain buzzwords like "billet". If they could con people into believing there was such a thing as a billet tire you can bet they would start selling them tomorrow for twice the already inflated prices.
Btw, pushing more oil into the engine than it was originally designed to handle is not a good thing. For instance, running more than about 15-20 psi at idle just means the piston cooling jets will be dumping excess oil into the crankcase
all the time, and the bypass system will be dumping most of the extra volume back to the inlet side of the pump, causing more shearing and aeration of the oil. And if you do force a bunch of excess oil up into the heads without changing the breather and oil drainback system to match, you could easily create a carryover problem or make an existing problem worse. My point is that an engines oiling system is just that, an engineered system. If you don't have a problem currently, there is no need to screw with it. If you do have an oiling problem, it would be best to find the cause of the problem and fix that, versus wasting money on a plate and pump that may not fix the real problem.
