Thanks for the info but my phone is set up exactly like yours and I even tried all types of variations...bottom line I called Harley care as well as the apple people Nd they say the same thing the software is not compatible so if I were you I would make sure you do not do any updates to your bike or the phone cause it will probably stop ..... Not a major problem but I like all the tech stuff like playing the pandora over blue tooth

I haven't seen this here but if it is I apologize for the duplicate. Texting IS an Apple issue. Your contacts will have to send the text as a text and NOT an I message. They can do this by sending the text and then pressing the BLUE message field . Options come up and "send as a text" will appear. As long as a text is in GREEN on the I phone it will go thru. So far no problems getting messages.

I wondered whey some messages were blue and some green.

Imessages show as BLUE

SSM messages shwo a GREEN

I have turned off my imessage on my phone and all messages are now green.

Will be doing some testing today to see if will work

My text msg is now working with my iphone and infotainment system.  The infotainment only sync SMS messages not imessages....what I loose by turning off imessage is the imessage sync between my iphone and Ipad.  Since my phone plan has unlimited texting, I see this as no big deal.

Harley Customer service told me it was an apple issue and it would not work.

mine iphone 6+ no go  won't work .. in the manual it walks you thru an iPhone set up but nope

I don't recall what setting I had to adjust. I will play around with the phone to see if I can recall, sorry 

I have an iPhone 5 with version 8.1.  My SMS text stuff works, but I don't know exactly what I did... yes, you're welcome...
Actually, the first time I went through the instructions it didn't work, after my second try- things worked.  I'm not sure which step made the difference but I also toggled "cellular data" off and on, iMessage off/on, and "Send as SMS" off/on.  I did all of that with the motorcycle's electrical power on, and on the phone screen.

What I did was disable the imessage on iPhone.
plugged phone into motorcycle's USB
turned on motorcycle and waited for infotainment to hookup

then sent myself a text and was alerted on the infotainment.

I seems that I am only alerted or can read those texts that are received while the units are paired up.

I have also confirmed that this works through bluetooth the same way.

I have also turned on imessaging on my iPad...because if someone sends you a text from an apple product that has imessaging enabled, it will be sent it as an imessage if your apple id has a enabled imessage device.  Thus, i was getting imessages on my iPad that did not show up iPhone.

Sorry about all the confusion on the text messaging feature.....other than this feature I was so disappointed  with the 2o14 cvo limited I had and the lack of actual improvements I turned it in and got a 2013 cvo roadking. With this and my old 2009 ultra I am very happy And my stereo is better than that POS infotainment system
