Getting New 2014 CVO Ultra Limited Blue Tomorrow
« on: April 07, 2014, 11:34:53 PM »

Hi All,
So I wrecked my beloved 2010 CVO (Riptide Blue) a few days before christmas.
After setteling with the insurance company, I decided to get a 2014 Ultra Limited in Black, I got an awesome deal ($5k below msrp) and put on Chrome wheels, Forks and everything on the handlebars as well as the Boom Power amp and upgraded speakers. It all came to $29k plus tax & tag.
Their werent any CVO's around and I wanted to save some money.
Anyway, after 3 months & 2000 miles, I decided to take the loss (and its disguesting), but I'm picking up a nice shine new 2014 Blue FLHTKSE CVO Ultra Limited and cant wait.
I really miss the power differance and the bling, especially after I put on my Full-sal XD pipe and heir 2" core's and I have an appointment with doc for a tune on the 30th.  The 2014 with its twin cooled 103 with all the same stuff dident come close to my doc tuned 2010 with all the same parts.

Now for my question;
Is their anything special that I have to check on my new CVO when I pick it up?
I called the motor co this morning and gave them the vin # and was told the build date was 1-1-14 (I guess their union works on new years day), yea right, and a ship date of mid feb and they said it should all be fine, latest radio update should have already be done (I believe it's 1.17.4) and not subject to the coolant bottle campaign that they had on the first batch of 2014 CVO's.

And before I have doc tune it, should I consider Cams, lifters (I read somewhere on this forum that their are problems with the lifters and inner cam bearings), and if so which one's are recomended.  I like goobs of power as low in the powerband as possible.

Doc had me leave the stock 255 came in my 2010, but I was wondering if I should change them.

Thanks in advance for any of your advise.

Congrats on the new CVO. I say ride it a while. This day and time the way some dealers are any changes you make could void the warranty and or give them and excuse to not repair problems you might have. IMO

Congrats on the new ride!! :orange: :drummer: :apple:

Although it's not a campaign (that I know of) ask them if they have checked the thermostat housing for leaks. They have been having trouble with them leaking, I think it's a manufacturing defect in the elbow (crack). This seems to be pretty widespread and I'm  surprised it's not a repair campaign. Look under the front of the bike for a single drip (drop) on the bottom edge of the chrome water pump cover. Even if not there now it "may" come later so just keep your eye on it.

They have one of those on the showroom at K'ville HD.  Shore b 1 purdy scooter...congratulations.  My two cents....you are already taking a hit on the Limited you are trading in.  If you mod the CVO and void the warranty, may be another large hit you don't want.  I'm with my Chattanooga buddy here....ride it a bit, keep an eye out for the "issues" the twin cooled bikes have had and let the warranty take care of that THEN do all your mods.
Here's a pic of the blue scooter I sat/drooled on this past Saturday....

Don't currently have a CVO but thought I had read in another thread the lifters and cam bearings were upgraded in 2013.  Do not know repair history of upgraded parts.  May not have been out long enough to get a lot of failures.

Congrats! I too picked up a 2014 FLHTKSE in blue a couple of weeks ago. Takes a little while to get accustomed to the extra switches for the boom box, but it works really great. I checked my software version on the radio, and I had to update it. It's easy to do. Check your software version to be sure. I called Sirius to set that up and it includes the specialty stuff too. Like weather radar, gas prices, traffic, etc. Bluetooth connected my iphone5. Can stream music, but you need to start that with your phone before you start to ride. I can receive text messages, and it will read them out loud if you choose. Only thing it won't do is send an automatic reply message that I entered into the radio. Could just be an iphone snafu.

Nice bike...Say Hi to Doc and Rocky for me. When he takes you to lunch don't eat too much!!! Doc has a plan for those 255 cams and its making 120 lbs of torque. Ask him about it.

You referenced the power difference between the 103 and the 110.  Did you change the exhaust system and dyno the 103?  Just curious as to the comparison...seems that 7 c.i., when propelling 1000+ lbs (rider, bike, etc) isn't going to make that big of a difference.

But you're right, power aside, you can't make up for the loss of bling.
