Here's a pic of 10,000 mile on my Hadyen.
FLHTCUES 2

NOTE:  it wasn't installed that it just ended up that way when cleaned and set there for the picture.
           Hope it didn't confuse anyone!

I don't know if it matters or not but your nylon piece is on backwards.  The curved cutaway on the right-hand end of the nylon piece in the picture is there to clear the curved part of the base on the left-hand end.  Just saying...

I immediately noticed the same thing. However, in the pic posted on a different thread when Russ was having problems with the clutch install the nylon piece is installed correctly:

So maybe it was accidentally flipped when additional work needed to be done on the clutch?  :nixweiss:

If the nylon piece is installed backwards the bottom of the piece would hit the top of the bump for the front fastener and might cause a vibration as the chain pushes down on the tensioner.

Yup, hopefully it was reversed when it was in the bike.

I can't see how the thing would fit reversed, but I didn't try.

I didn't experience any noise when I installed mine as some have experienced and I have been very happy with how it works in my bike but then I have had one in my 96 WG for years and never any problem.

Ha, I know what happened!!!! It's was the S/E wooden spoon fault "Duh". Sheesh, like a red-neck with a hammer!!!! I'm thinking of changing mine, loud wine in 1st gear and hard chunk in all gears especially when downshifting. Can't be good....

Reporting from Jimmy's living room in the beautiful NC: after 400 mile day yesterday the bike runs much smoother, gear changes up or down easier, and decelerations quieter. So for me the Hayden is a keeper.

Now back to riding the great twisty roads of NC!! :)

Don't worry you will love the difference and wonder why you didn't do it sooner.  :drink: Anyway use some sort of clamp in the middle after assembly and after you have it squished down put a zip tie on each side then you can slip in in place then cut the zip ties and remove. Pm me if you have any questions be glad to help.

X2.  I did my Friday night for the first time and it took about an hour. Mine did not require shims and the zip tie trick works well. It makes some noise at first, but it is supposed to go away when the chain wears into the new block.

I'm starting to question the Hayden install I did. Like 05Train, I'm starting to have some noises that I didn't have before coming from the primary. Getting an occasional clunk when shutting down and the occasional hard start up. I've got prolly 600 or so miles on this set up. The chain seemed like it was really tight after doing the install. We've got a 400 mile day planned for this Sat. I may be taking it apart next week for a look see...

I do like the better shifting the tighter chain provides but not if it's going to break something in the primary.

"Getting an occasional clunk when shutting down and the occasional hard start up."

I'd focus on the compensator as the culprit for the above noise.  My '09 SE Ultra with the original comp did not make that noise,  but when I had the SE (improved???) comp installed,  mine started that same "clunk" type noise too. :drink:
