PinkE, why are there so many differences between conventionally raised eggs and free range eggs?

Free range hens eat grass, bugs and worms for protein, flowers, Dandelions, and are usually supplemented with a quality grain and chicken scratch feed (oats, seeds, cracked corn), and get Vitamin D from the sun... Battery Hens (Commercial farmed eggs) are crammed into small cages maybe 1'x1',maybe 2 in the cage, never see sun, their feet never touch the ground, they only eat low vitamin, high protein, fat filled feed, mixed with sawdust sometimes, they are forced to lay by artificial lighting, basically there stressed out their whole lives...PLUS, believe it or not, they wash the eggs in Bleach so there nice and white, the egg absorbes some of the bleach into the egg. The hen puts a final coat on the egg when she lays it called a Bloom, this coating seals the shell from absorbing germs and harmful bacteria, and keeps the egg safe, commercial eggs get this bloom washed off...Plus a commercial egg can be 10 weeks old before it ever reaches the store, they sit in distribution coolers till there sold, sometimes longer, the older the egg the easier it is to peel when you make hardboiled eggs. The yolks of Free range hens are richer and darker in color because of the green grass and all the good things they eat, plus there happy, not stressed out or forced to lay eggs. Some people think brown eggs are stronger flavored, wrong, the only reason an egg is brown is because the color of the chicken determines what color the shell is, after the shell is formed the hen puts the color on the shell just before she lays it.... the egg inside is still the same. Just buy from local farmers markets or when you see a sign out in front of a house buy there and then crack one of those next to a store bought egg, the color of the yolk is much richer on the Free range egg and the difference in taste is amazing, once you try them you will never go back to the store bought eggs, and like said, there so much better for you.
