Rebuilt engine still has ticking noise
« on: May 28, 2014, 01:41:14 AM »

Just got my 2012 SESG back today after engine rebuild. Everything except the crank, as it  was replaced at 8000 km's. All stock parts except the lifters were changed  Screamin Eagle. The engine still has the same ticking or knocking  noise as it did since day one. Does anyone have an idea what this may be ? I figured with all new parts this would not happen. It's a little disappointing to say the least. Any thoughts ?

Thanks,

Adjustable pushrods, or the stock units?

Might give some thought to a set of adjustables to load that lifter more.

That has been suggested. Any ideas which ones would work well ?

Thanks,

 We would all be guessing

Take it back where you had the engine rebuilt or to an indy or stealership and have someone give a listen.

See reply #5.

I have a 2012 110 B motor and have had that "TICKING" since it was new, now 22k and it is NO worse, but still anoying.
Switched to regular 20w50 HD from Syn3, and it got a bit quieter, but does not seem to affect the running.

It only is there from 2100 - 2800 rpm. :nixweiss:

I think I'm going to take it back to the dealer and try the adjustable push rods. I'm just not happy with the noise it makes. I figure it can't be good if it's clacking and making noise. Thanks for all the suggestions.

New 2014 110" here, 40 miles on it, ticky, mostly at 2800-3200 rpm. S&S lifters and adjustable push rods going in next week, along with 24D's. Will report back.

In the early years of the 110 seems like most including mine at the time had a noise around 2800 RPM'S. So I thought that went away maybe this is something different. Mine went away when I pulled the motor and installed something else.

I've got the s&s premiums and adjustable push rods and 580 cams still ticks...
