tru-track clearance
« on: December 06, 2006, 12:36:24 PM »

Has anyone w/ an '04 SEEG installed the tru-track system? Does it hinder the use of a jack? I have to hold my bike vertical (or close to it) w/ one hand while I slide the jack under. I'm concerned that w/ the tru-track the jack may not fit at all. I'd go w/ the ride str8, but I can get a smokin' deal on a tru-track from a mech @ the local shop who bought a bunch of them.

Bungy-

I have the True track on my 05..  To use my jack, I run the front tire up on a 2X4, slide the jack under so the rear lift arm is under the True track/cross brace, put a 3/8" board under the front lift arm and lift with no problems.  The True Track is a quality piece.

Bungy,
I would be very interested in a smokin' deal on a Tru-Track if you are at liberty to share the details.

Thanks

Ditto. BTW, let's see how many people want it. Maybe we could negotiate a better deal. I'd like to install one as well. Should we start a poll to see how many takers we'll get? Hoist!

We did group purchases of the Ride-Str8 device quite some time ago.  At that time I contacted both it's manufacturer and the True Tracks.  Ride Str8 offered a better price point.  In fact as a group we ended up doing (I think) three group buys of the Ride Str8.  The Ride Str8 guy can be a piece of work to deal with; but the part and price were ok.

Hoist, I'm interested if you can work a deal.  Met the guy who developed this at Laconia this year.  Can't find his card right now but real interesting guy.  Looks like a quality piece.

The clearance issue was the deciding factor for me. I went with the ride str8. Both products in my opinion do the same thing, add a third point to connect the engine to the frame, and work equally well.

Here are some links to prior discussions on the board about these products:

Jim, Don, thanks for the info. I'm going to follow up on both of these. Anyone have comments on their preference between the 2 , please post here and which one we should try to pursue. I have no experience with either and have no preference except, of course, to use the best one. I'd like to have this wrapped up soon so I can have one on order before my bike comes in. I plan on having this installed before I take delivery. Thanks, Hoist!

As Don said, the two acomplish the same thing.
The TruTrak does hinder lifting the bike somewhat and the Ride St8 guy is tough to deal with.
I've had the TruTrak and will probably go to the Ride St8 next for the same reasons as HD-Dude stated.
Remember, if all else fails, listen to Jim.

Has anyone put the Ride-Str8 on an 07 with the new board mounts?  I too like the looks of it over the TT, but wonder what to do about the new adjustable passenger boards.

Cheers!

Another point I'll mention, is although I can't say I've ever noticed the rear steer, I must have encountered it because of marks inside my left saddle bag from the lower "CUP" of my Progressive 440's rubbing on the bag.  It's more if like a gouge about 1.5" long.  I haven't measured the clearance, but I think there is about 3/8" nominal clearance between the pieces normally.  That's a good bit of sideways movement.  I never saw that with the OEM shocks, but they are thinner at the bottom than the Progressives so they have more clearance.

Cheers!

Gee, three in a row. Oh well, here goes.

Hopefully someone can clear this up for me...

The swingarm mounts onto the top of the oil tank and is not connected to the frame in any way right?

Harleydude-

Go to True track's website and read all they have there.  Then call the phone number and the fellow (Wil) will be able to answer any questions you have and probably talk your leg off.  Most members here have the Ridestr8 do to the group buys.  Personally, I would  rather have billet aluminum parts like TT's instead of Ridestr8's stamped steel.  With the TT I have no problems lifting or cornering-no clearance problems.  Both items try to accomplish the same thing.  If you have stock exhaust head pipes like me, the TT does not require exhaust removal for installation as the Ridestr8 does.  Good luck.
