I rode a friends street glide with i think 20 inch apes.  They were just above the fairing. What I hated was all the cold wind that would enter my sleeves and cool me down real bad. Hand got cold as well. Also bunched up the riding leathers around my shoulders and lifted it up at the waist.  But all that aside, the handling sucked large, especially making a u turn. I guess you pay and pay for cool.

13's are just above the fairing not 20's. 20's would be a good 6 plus inches above the fairing.

I don't ride below 65 so no idea about the cold.

These are 14" BR Custom Bars, I'm 6'1" and they sit below my shoulder. Rode w/ the Maniacs in Kentucky for Ribfest 2014 and was as comfortable as possible and handled good at low speed and high speed riding.

I also have 10" on the '10 SEUC and plan on installing 10's on the '04 SEEG.

To each his own, but I much rather the riding with the apes on each bike. The '04 with stock bars seem awkward now.

I talked with a guy in Florida that had some huge bars (probably over 20 inch)and asked him if the police had ever hassled him. He walked over to the bike and proceeded to show me he left the clamps loose enough that when he saw the cops coming he would just pull them back below his shoulders. That has got to be a safe way to ride, right? :o

Going back a little ways now,  the bigger apes made a hot rod [high compression big inch motor] a lot more comfy to kick start, it always sounded crazy to me but I rode with guys that ran them loose enough to pull them back when they saw a cop they got them under their shoulders in height saw my buddy do this a lot.

I went with wo 577. 12-1/2".  Love em. Like Jesse I would agree, best mod.  I brought mine down some and made them just right.  Love the look and the added comfort.  :2vrolijk_21:

Running the 12 monkey bars on my Roadie and at 6'1 and using the late model ultra seat I really wish I had went with the 14's.  For me the comfort level is so much better than with the stock bars and can't tell any difference in handling at all

I also think apes look good on long fork choppers and those bikes made for styling and looking cool not "practical long distance cruising bagger type bikes. I have not ridden a motorcycle with apes but I can't in-vision a long distance day with the blood draining out of my arms and my armpits into the cold in winter or cold rainy days.

I have 14" Apes on my 12 CVO Road Glide, I Just had the 40K service done on the bike.  I have done several back to back 650 plus mile days on it.  I have rode from Knoxville to Ft Lauderdale FL in the rain on it.  Zero Issues, far more comfortable than the stock bars.  My hands are 1 inch lower than my shoulders.

My 13 CVO Road King has 14" apes on it also, and 13K miles on it.

So I average 24K a year on bikes.  So I guess they are fine for long distance riding, they work good on the dragon also.

I just rode all over the Carolinas, TN, and North GA with 13's. I did a 630 mile day coming home. These handlebars are the most comfortable mod I have ever done. The bike handles like a dream as well. Now if only it actually ran...

Well, with Apes I have taken and completed Ride like a pro.  I can ride a 20' diameter circle in either direction.  I can do a U-turn on any two land street with out putting a foot down.  I think the 14" apes on both my bikes are great.

I am wishing on my CVO King I would have gone on to the 16" Monkey bars, I have the 14"s on both.  I really should have gone up when I did the king.

I've got 14 inch Carlini Menace apes on my SEUC. These are extremely comfortable for long distance riding and for slow speed maneuverability. Just got back from a 1,400 mile trip one way. When I was at the destination I test rode a new SEUC with stock bars. I was very uncomfortable with the stock bars and felt it was dangerous like I didn't have control of the bike at low speed and I was hunched forward. It felt like I was on a bullet bike. No thanks.

I'm very happy with the 12-1/2" bars on my bike. One of the best things I've done to it. The bars and seat combination put my hands just below shoulder height.
