Hard to read, but basically says the "Reman Program" is ending June 30 and is being replaced by the "Long Block Program".

Long Block being defined as less cams, cam cover, rocker box covers.  And no more used parts - Long Blocks will consist of all new parts.

The local dealer just brought me a factory 2001 SE 95" RG re-man to tune. My S&S rep did mention that they are no longer doing the re-man project for MoCo.

I agree.
I would imagine it is economics.
The Moco is probably seeing/projecting a better margin opting for the long block.

Agree as well. You can rest assured knowing that S&S is making moves to push their company and their products forward in a positive way to a brighter future. They seem to be on top of their game and they haven't let me down yet. Some of their shorter cams are not my favorite but the rest of their products are the cream of the crop and if in my experience, if you do have a problem come up, they coming running over to save the day. They did just release "factory stock" camshaft lineup. Maybe they intend to make replacement complete crate motors for HD. I know HD would turn out a much better product if they fire the bean counters that are trying pinch pennies for the sake of their shareholders at the cost of their customers. Maybe they finally realized S&S is making a better motor for with better profit margins than they can after all the warranty claims and probs HD has had. Wouldn't surprise me if HD didn't make more money in the long haul if they let S&S take over completely in the engine and engine components department.

It will be interesting to see how they price this new "long block" versus the price for the old reman program and the price for new crate engines.  This method will allow them to use the regular production processes (including automation), eliminates the time and labor involved in cleaning, teardown, and inspection of parts involved in the reman program, and is likely to cut their costs significantly.  Btw, one of the things about this change that isn't obvious until you read to the end is that this new program is not available for EVO's, so those folks will no longer have a "factory" option for rebuilds.  I wouldn't be surprised to find other companies like S&S stepping in to that piece of the market for those who prefer something other than a local dealer or independent shop rebuilding their engine.

HD is just following along with what the auto companies have figured out. It cost them way too much to try and rebuild an engine, they are much better off letting the production line run with new parts than worrying about old ones and who's is who's. If they continue to follow the auto companies lead you will see that they only offer this service for current production parts. As soon as there line is changed for a new production engine the old one is gone and since they do not build EVO's any more, it looks like that is what they are going to do. As for the cost this is Moco right.....

Jerry, admit I've liked the idea of a factory available long block for a long time.  Cases, crank, probably oilers and a few other small bits in to and on to which a guy could then do the easy part of the build to create what he wanted.  Allows us on this end of things a lot of flexibility we wouldn't otherwise have without having to (in most cases) add a lot of shop expense to a project.  Assuming they don't set price points somewhere up in the HD-osphere that make working from that platform counterproductive.

But....

It's still starting from an HD bottom end.  Which will probably mean a squeeze fit (press fit being too strong a description) flywheel that will always be a worry and of which many would immediately disassemble anyway to send the crank off to someone to make it more road-ready before use.

No, S&S doesn't offer any motors using SE cases anymore.

We have done many of the reman engines . Evo and both versions of t/c .The VIN is matching but is pin stamped . No MSO as it the factory VIN. All new parts , nothing used parts as we have been back inside to install the customers performance parts or upgrade the new engine with a few extras.
