GPS recomendations

A friend needs a GPS he can mount on his 2012 Ultra Classic and plug into the HK radio aux jack on the faceplate. What would be the best all around model in your opinion?

Garmin... take your pick.... 660, 665, 590 all depends on what features he wants or can do w/o.

What he said. You might also find a used 550 online, it is the oldest of the motorcycle specific Garmin GPS's.

I looked around at several units before I bought a bike that had one with it. I liked the Garmin, especially the Harley ones that have all the dealerships programmed into it. Great if you're travelling  a lot

I have the 660 and it's worth it's weight in gold, if you have a problem, especially on a weekend.
Not only the HD Dealers, but Transportation, Food, Loding etc., in case you have to wait for HD Repairs.

Don't have to get the "Harley" one to have those... they are available as a download on the Zumo Forum that you can upload to any Garmin (that allows POI uploads)... the good (better) thing about the file offered on the Zumo Forum is they are updated often (unlike the updates from the MoCo) and you can upload (custom) icons and (custom) sound files for them.

My friend bought the HD 660 and now I'm on the hook to help him install it.   :-\

He did good :2vrolijk_21:... it's a Garmin... can't go wrong w/that. Good luck on getting it installed for him... shouldn't be that big of a deal.

i have a nuvi that i bought to 'test the waters' so to speak.  i think that i will be 'upgrading' to the zumo motorcycle specific one in the future.   i know i can get the non hd one cheaper, but i'll be using chrome cash from my visa card so will have to get it from a dealer.  before i shell out some big bucks for this thing, i want to know is the screen that much brighter than the non mc versions?  or is it going to be washed out by glare as well?

You will want to shop around a little as you can pick up the Harley branded Garmin 660 or 665 for less then a Garmin 660 or 665.

Check with the discount HD dealers.

The screen does wash out on just about every GPS out there, but I will say the new Garmin 590 does a very good job in the sun. Polarized sun glasses will make it even worse.

thanks for the recommendations.  i have checked with the discount dealers (my favorite is hornytoadhd) and i can get the 660 for $533.  after i get done with the kitchen remodel, i should have close to $300 in chrome cash, leaving me with a balance of $233.  i can sell my nuvi (maybe) and that should drop the price right down to affordable :D

between the 2 garmins that hd sells, the specs are almost identical.  the only difference is the 665 does xm radio.  that is not a draw for me.  otherwise, on paper, side by side, identical.  the 590 is just way out of my price range.  i could buy the gps, but then i couldn't afford to go anywhere in order to use it :D

I have the HD Zumo 660 and the Garmin Lifetime Map Updates and Program updates.
My friend loves Dunkin Donuts, so I added the DD POI.
I had problems getting the Free Garmin Icons and Voices to load. A call to Garmin tech Support easily corrected that issue.
For me and my SERK, it was and easy install with the HD Zumo Handlebar Bracket.

I've got the 665 and while I don't use the XM music, I do subscribe to XM weather. I use the 665 mostly avoiding thunderstorms in the northeast and it's very accurate.
