You really should do a lot more research if you really believe that hype.  For every person who thinks they are happy with their T-Max, you can find someone else who is not or who has sold it and gone with a different approach.  First and foremost, there is no such thing as a true Auto Tune, advertising hype notwithstanding.  And if your particular bike needs changes to the base map they provide, you may have a lot of fun trying to find a tuner who works with that product to fix your map.

The best advice you have received here so far is to spend your time finding a real full time professional tuner with a good reputation, and let him guide you as to what tuning package he recommends and uses.  The package is a tool, not an end product.  Find the guy you intend to have use the tool first.

x3 spot on. I wish I had done that. I purchased the Dynojet Power Vision, which is a great tool no doubt, but no one around me uses it to tune and in the end a real tune trumps the auto tune function. I bought mine in hopes that I would save money putting it on the dyno but in the end I had to dyno it anyway.

I'm happy with the thundermax, however I can only compare it to the HD stage one tune it replaced. Its night and day. much smother , no more missing, sputtering, awsome throttle response and predictability. I am a big a fan of the wideband 02 sensors, I use one to help tune my car.
I like the  fact it uses a atmoshere sensor vice the Manifold  sensor. I have looked at the tuning that I can do with it, should i have knock or want to adjust the tune. It is pretty basic and functional, I can adjust the MAP but I can't log ( or dont know how yet) while Im running.
I live in MD, close to Zippers, so I may be biased.
Based on the above posts it seems the TTI? would be the choice if you were into racing or want finite control.

anyone have prices for the different options? T-max is around 950, more I think if you have them update the firmware and load a map.

FWIW, my office is 10 miles away from Zipper's, and it'd be a cold day in hell before I used a T-Max.

yes i have also read some bad reviews on tmax but im only 5 miles from zippers and i just thought it would be easy but now im having second thoughts. i have the SE super tuner on it right now but im just not liking it. it has a really annoying decel pop and the dealer had it for 3 days trying to get a good map in it but its limited so they got it the best they could. also does anyone know what the dealer does with the stock module when they take it off? i never got anything back from them when they installed the super tuner i was just wondering incase i just get aggravated and want to go back to stock.  :nixweiss:

They didn't remove the stock ECM.  The new map is installed in the ECM in place of the original map (calibration file).  Did they give you the VCI (vehicle communications interface, a small orange box-like device)?  If not, you need to insist they do so, you paid for it and it's married to your ECM (not useable on any other ECM).

If you have the product I think you have, the Street Perfomance Tuner, you are right, it is limited to making adjustments outside of the EPA regulated operating areas, such as more than 50% throttle and high load (acceleration).  It's definitely NOT what you really want or need to do a full and proper tune.  Why these dealers continue to sell that thing instead of the SEPST is beyond me.

Trust me, since you don't seem to be familiar with the process you really need to find that full time professional tuner I mentioned previously and stop worrying about the actual device that will be used to tune the bike.  Do not assume the folks at the dealership are qualified to do much of anything.

If you're looking for a tuning device and don't want to spend a lot of money on dyno time, new exhaust (this is assuming you still have the stock header and slip on mufflers), etc., look at the Fullsac website.  Many of us are pleased with the Fullsac Stage 1 kit, which includes a new header, baffles for your stock mufflers, a TTS mastertune, and a map that was developed by Fullsac.

Also, the owner of a Fullsac is a forum member as is the owner of TTS Mastertune.  They're both very helpful if you have questions or problems. Both have excellent customer support.

A very big part of "what the best tuner is" is who the person using the device is. A good dyno operator will do what he has to do to make the bike hes tuning run the best it can be whether its a TMax, TTS, SE Tuner, Techno Research, Power Vision, Power Commander, CV carb, Mikuni carb or S&S carb with TJet. I've had good results with all of them although it can test your patience sometimes and sometimes, especially with carbs, you have to test and test and test and sometimes you have to take the lesser of the two negatives. Thats what tuning is all about, making the engine run the best can with what you have to work with, tuning module or carb be damned.

I have a SE Tuner, and after only one month, I can notice a lot more decal popping. I have a 120R, and I thought possibly this engine gets out of tune easier than other engines. I'd rather have to spend more for a long term solution than to have to have it dyno'ed every few moths. Maybe I didn't have either a good tuner or a good tuning person to start with? I had it done at the Harley dealership, for whatever that's worth. Thanks for your assistance - I just want to try and make a halfway intelligent decision, since I don't have a lot of knowledge in this area. I am pretty good at drinking beer though.

Start with the simple stuff that can cause decel pop. Check for exhaust leaks etc. If you feel like the bike ran good or runs good other than that, leak could be the problem, if that doesn't fix it, maybe since you have the SE tuner, pull the map out, reset adaptive fuel and reload the map and see if that fixes the problem.

Yes, but if it isn't something that has always been a problem and it has developed the problem over time, I doubt it needs adjustment to that table unless like I said, the adaptive fuel has changed things enough that its changed the amount of fuel added to the decel enleanment table.

I second that.  After happily running the Tmax for over a year I started having issues.  I tried for days on the phone with Zippers to get things fixed.  I even drove to their store and all they wanted to do was argue with me over the counter for hours that it was my bike and not their device causing my issues.

I re-installed the factory ECM and put on the TTS and all my issues were gone.  I cut the wires off of the Tmax and threw it in the garbage.

Their customer service is the world's worst! :nervous:

Lots of things can cause decel popping. There is no magic button or feature in any tuning device that is going to fix it, anyone who thinks that's possible, is trying to selling you a bill of goods. There are even some pipe, muffler combinations that you will never get it all gone. With that said cover the basics before you jump into the tuning for it. If your bike has been fine and then after a period of time, developed decel popping it is typically not the tune.
