There's still more difference than that as the CVO is about a 10K premium on a RK and 14K premium on a limited.
I WISH it were 5K.
They're not exclusive, of course. My 2010 CUSE5 (scarlet/graphite) is one of <400 in the lower 48 (according to HD). It was bought new (and garaged) in Austin. When I brought it home last year to my small town of Longview (TX) I was surprised to learn there was one here already. He had it all to himself for three years, though. In my year of having it I have ridden thru 18 states logging about 15,000 miles*. I've seen only two others in person, one in Arkansas and another somewhere along the Yellowstone trip.
*my neglected RK just glares at me now
I stand corrected, I should have wrote that differently, when I was looking at the Street glide and the things I was going to add to it (pushing 26k), it was cheaper for me to go with the CVO Road King. I got the added bonus of a chromed front end and a 110ci along with other things for only 1k more than I was going to spend on the street glide. I did get a great deal on my CVO, way under msrp.
I don't see to many CVOs out riding but I know the local dealer is a high volume dealer and they do move a lot of CVOs out of there, I guess most are garage Queens here.
Point being the CVO had become less exclusive, if they'd make fewer each year they'd bounce back in resale value.
