New cvo breakout issues...
« on: July 30, 2014, 12:01:40 AM »

Hey guys, I just bought my cvo breakout last week and when I picked up the bike the new 2 into 2 pipes and tune (SE tuner) was installed on the bike and so far I'm not happy at all.  The reason is the bike doesn't feel much, if any stronger then my '08 nightrain I had and I'm having an issue from 2k-3k rpm.

The issue is most noticeable in 5th or 6th gear rolling on the throttle from 2200rpm.  The bike starts to accelerate and falls on it's face and losses power until about 3k and it feels better but still not powerful.  While I can't say for certain my nightrain was stronger it did feel much better.

So far I'm very unhappy with the bike and this is the second time in a week that service is looking into this issue, last week the bike "was fine, no issue found" and that's bullchit.  I will not keep this bike if this is normal.

Also the bike sounds like a sewing machine running above 2k rpm on the highway from the front of the bike.... Anyone know what that's about?

So funny that I can cry. I was in the same boat as Sinner. Bought my cvo, started riding it, heard the sowing machine noise, got very annoyed, went on line, found this forum, started reading and asking question, ended up spending close to $10,000 and now the sawing machine noise is gone.

Sinner, you are in for a boat lode at this point my friend.  Have fun along the way. Cheers.  (oh, don't tell your wife what it "really" costs. Better that way. Trust me )  :P

Need a few more details:

Exactly which tuner did you buy (Street Performance Tuner or Pro Super Tuner)?
What exhaust did you install?
Was the bike dynoed or was a canned map installed?
If bike was dynoed, do you have the dyno sheet that you can post?

Regarding the engine noise...not sure what you are hearing, but the 110 has more mechanical noise than any HD engine I've had, including the 103.  This forum is full of posts about the 110 making noise.

The bike should run better than what you described in bone stock form, so I suspect the problem is related to the pipe change and so-called dealer tune.  Find out if they really tuned it, or they just downloaded a canned map.  Odds are they just installed a canned map.  And if you want a good tune, I suggest finding a full time professional tuner and not a Harley dealership.

As for the noise, it's a Harley.  They all make noise, and the 110 is the noisiest version yet.  The trick is to get a feel for the "normal" noise common to all the engines, and then take action when the noises change to something more prominent or ominous.  Good luck.

I agree with grc.  Your tune is way off.  Stop going to the morons you're dealing with and find someone in your area that knows how to build a map for YOUR bike.  The bike has to be run on the DYNO in order to know you are tuned correctly.  Please post your dyno results if you have them.  Your bike should be in the neighborhood of 92-97HP and 105-112 peak torque (at or near sea level).

Tune! Tune! Tune!

You'll find the 110" is a tractor puller, loads of low rpm power.

Thanks for the reply guys...

The dealer put on the tuner that self learns as you drive it. It's not a canned tune or dyno tune   but I don't recall the exact name of the tuner.

I have a few performance cars so I understand the need for a good tune and the correct AFR but this is my first tuner/tuner on one of my bikes.  My 08 nightrain had a canned tune and it was great.... Felt much better then this bike.

As for exhaust, it's V&H radius. 2-2.... I'll give the dealer this last shot to get it right and then I'll find a dyno to check AFR and go/tq

That well maybe the line they feed you but as you can see it isn't working out. There is NO self- tuner from HD or anyone else that will self tune the HD bike. A complete line of BS but many trying to spread it. Take it back and see about a proper repair or a refund and take it to a tuner that knows how to work with it. Since your in the Dallas area try GMR that is a site supporter here.

I think you need to find a better dealer.  And there is no SE tuner that "auto tunes", so lord only knows what they installed.  Btw, as Steve Cole already mentioned there is no such thing as a true "auto tune" device for these bikes, no matter what the ads say.

Any place or person that thinks it's OK to try to blow smoke up my azz isn't a place or person I give a second chance.  I'm a firm believer in the old adage "screw me once, shame on you, screw me twice, shame on me".  I think you might want to forget about giving them a third chance and just insist they refund your money, then go find a good independent full time professional to tune the bike properly.

I think they used the screaming eagle super tuner.

I'll do some research on the tuner now. I know cars very well but well behind the curve on bikes.

I'll do some rearward on the tuner now. I know cars very well but well behind the curve on bikes.

That's the better HD tuner.  If I'm not mistaken, the Street Performance Tuner only allows the dealer to install canned maps that are all EPA compliant...which will still be way too lean.

I have the super tuner on my bike with big radius 2 into 2 pipes and dyno'd.  Runs awesome, you will like the bike much better, once you have it tuned.

I'm going to have to go somewhere else because the tech just told me he didn't see an issue with the tune and the dead spot is due to the pipes.

This is his exact message to me, "Hey Gregory I checked your bike out today. Unfortunately I couldnt do anymore tuning with it. Really the problem with the flat spot is really your exhaust pipes. They look cool and sound cool but just not the best for overall performance."

I'm really annoyed.

The tech may have a point. I have those pipes on my Fatboy and they look great and sound awesome but however they are known to cost you some power and might be part of the reason for your flat spot. An adjustment to the tune might help but probably won't eliminate it completely.

Thank you phato1
I've talked a fee others and they agree with the tech.

Would removing the baffles help if it's due to exhaust restriction
