Oil vent line
« on: December 12, 2006, 07:51:42 PM »

Hello everyone,

I don't know if I am posting this in the right place but here's my question.
The current oil vent line has a 2 - 3" piece of rubber tube on the left hand end, does anyone know the reason for this and can it be replaced with an all chrome one?

Hi Mack,

Here is a recent thread on just that topic. I think you will find what you are looking for here.

The reason is the MoCo was to cheap to do the all chrome one, yes it can be replaced with this - Chrome Oil Vent Line - 33111-02

Thanks guys,

I bought the line and then as I have been looking at other SE's I see the same thing and in some older models its all rubber. I have no idea why when the SE's cost what the do there are still mods. go figure. thanks for the info.

Mac-

Instead of installing the chrome line kit, I installed the chrome cover over my old line and it looks great with the chrome neutral safety switch cover.  I'm biased but I like this look better where you don't have to look at the line.  The MOCO's picture isn't that good, I could post a picture of mine installed if need be.

According to the MOCO's website, you most also use their trans interface kit and you can't you a chrome soloenoid cover.  I do not have the interface but have the soloenoid cover and the oil line cover works fine.

It can be seen here:

Not cheap Gary so much as stuck in the past. The designers coudn't get by the fact that they had always had to have a short section of rubber in any solid lines to accomadate any flex between the two items being piped up. Take a look at the lines on some soft tails. The fact that the motor and trans on a Twin-cam are all but one solid unit didn't seem to sink in for a couple of years. They figured it would flex and break. It wasn't till it proved itself that the went to the solid lines. Now in 07, the line is gone and it's all internal. The look is a lot cleaner.

Ok, I understand now, another case of they don't know their product. :-[ :-X ::) Or is the designers of this part were in a different room of the designers of the motor/tranny? [smiley=confused5.gif] Or was it the designers of both of these parts were in a different section of the building then the P&A catalog people and they thought

One downside to the internal lines on the '07 - less chrome on the right side for the obsessed (you'll notice I didn't mention a certain pumpkin owner by name.)

Thanks again, Boatman, I like the look of the Chrome line and I have already installed the Chrome Neutral switch cover, Chrome Solenoid cover, a ton of toppers and SS screws. again for the price one would think it should have come that way

The bolts especially.  It is quite frankly more than a little chicken chit that HD doesn't do those.  I supposed one would have to at least listen to the argument that some guys might like some of the extra cover more than others.  Or that they couldn't put on just everything (though for the price even these are somewhat facetious).

But the bolts?  We got some covers (like the oil line cover) that if you went to buy it as an accessory over the counter would come with a chrome bolt.  Except (at least on the SEEGs) for us we get the extra chrome cover all right; but with ugly bolts standing starkly in the middle of it.  Tranny covers, side covers, timer cover, derby cover, all the other fancy or even special CVO only pieces; and ugly bolts.

There is not a bike owner in Harleydom who would want the fancy cover with the ugly bolts in the middle of it.  That is not a matter of taste of choice.  It's Harley just getting not just cheap, but exceptionally cheap; and doing so at our expense because they are sure they can.
