Does anyone know of an analogue unit?  It doesn't matter to me whether it is digital or not.

I can check my oil level anytime, but the temperature is very important, especially on very hot days.
As an engineer, guess I am sort of a geek and proud of it.  Still, the unit need not be digital to be of use.

Don't have any knowledge of these products just found them when Google'n.

Edit to add: These seem to be from the company in the thread mentioned above referring to 110tHunDer's thread.

Thanks Fired00d.  Ordering the oil filled gage today.

I did some web searches and these didn't come up.  I'll let the vendor know they need to have their page tweaked.

I agree about the analog being more dependable and am fired up to find these! This might be a dumb question but what is the difference between the 2 that are listed besides the price?

As found on the manufactures website:

Oil dipsticks for motorcycles

After the success of the self-locking fuel caps produced by us since 1998, Harley-Davidson commissioned us to develop and product other accessory parts for motorcycles from 2000 onwards, though this time using electronic components and sensors. Our first products in this series were oil dipsticks with integrated digital temperature display. This solution developed and patented by our specialists combines high-tech with the hallmark classic design of Harley-Davidson motorbikes.

It sounds like Harley wanted them to build them to Harley specifications.  I think that this explains the repeated failures (with the hallmark classic design of Harley-Davidson motorbikes).  Most stuff that comes out of Germany is pretty good stuff.

Also, when does the words high tech and Harley go together?

BTW, I have had one for 5 years with only one issue.  I turned it upside down and the oil leaked into the display.  I cleaned it out and all is good.

My oil temp dipstick failed in less than 2 months.  I am in Stugis and it was rainy Tuesday and Wednesday.  First I got sensor fail then in a couple of hours it was full of condensation.  I rode done to Black Hills H-D and they gave me a new one.  I did not purchase it from them but they did the right thing.  I have been complaining about high oil temps and I have been using it to see if my new ultra cool oil cooler is doing its job.  I had regularly seen temps inthe 280s and now the highest was 250 range. At least I have shed about 25* from what it was.  A TTS dyno tune is the next step in my journey to a sound bike.

I was kinda shocked to see this thread. You mean to tell me they're STILL making these junk temp. dipsticks?? I made the mistake of getting one when I had my '05 SEEG & it was junk the first time it got wet. I got a refund & never bought another one. At least the newer bikes have the EITMS to let you know it's starting to get hot if you don't have a temp guage.
