If your really looking for a 14 CVO Ultra keep looking. I've seen a few here on Long Island all marked down off list. FWIW

Was at the dealer in Salisbury, N.C, Had a 14 CVO Ultra, wife liked it. So I told the Dude look at my 13 lets see what you can do. They wanted 42 for the 14 offered me 25 for the 13. 13 has about 8 grand in extras, premium ride forks, rear shocks , spoiler led's, headers, mufflers etc. Needless to say, rode the 13 home. I know add ons mean nothing at trade time. But they are still wanting MSRP FOR A YEAR OLD MODEL. Waiting to see how long it sits. The 13 is running good, ran even better on the 30 mile ride home.  :apple:

Am I misunderstanding you? The 14 Ultra wasn't $42K MSRP correct?

MSRP was $38,999, plus $435 freight.

Stand corrected, it wasn't, but that is the price they had on it for  A MODEL YEAR OLD BIKE O.T.D. Somebody might pay it. But anybody in the know won't. Salesman told me he thinks the reason trade in value was so low is they are drowning in used bikes they can't sell  :nixweiss:

No surprise they haven't sold the '14 SEUK at that price, especially with the '15s available...and if they're pricing their trade-ins the same way, it's no wonder they're drowning in them.

HAHAHA....tha'ts my point. Their one year old "new" bike is worth waaaaaaay over MSRP and our one year used is worth nothing. The way it is SUPPOSED to work is, if the value of the new bikes are higher, then the used bikes comparably equipped should also bring better money. However.....we (we meaning me too) keep drinking the kool-aid so what else should they do? That is why I held out for a fair deal this year and it seems a lot of others are starting to do the same.

Even people who don't care about money, or at least try to make the rest of us on the forum think they don't care about money, need to stop drinking the Kool-Aid.  It's about a lot more than just overpaying for a product.  The fact that the Kool-Aid drinkers just keep letting the MoCo and the dealers screw them over also affects how those entities handle quality and customer service.  When they are taking in money faster than they can count it, there is very little incentive to improve the product or the customer service.

That is much more than I paid for my 2015 FLTRUSE, which has a higher msrp than the limited.  I was not jacked around by the dealer at all, they gave me a fair price for my 12 FLTRXSE, and I paid a fair price for the new bike.

The my high milage 12 SERG sold in three or four days.

Just bought a mint 2012 convertible for $24k with 1,950 miles. V&H pipe and tuning box included.

These are emotional-based purchases, not financial ones, so anything is possible I guess, but I just don't get the need for the latest model. Especially for what they want for them. There are many better motorcycles if we were going by spec sheets. If they replace the twin cam 110 or somehow have a generational thing with the chassis, then I could see an argument for the newer one. Otherwise let's be honest, these bikes are all dinosaurs. We all bought one ;) but come on. With so few engineering changes between model years, it's real hard to make a rational argument for a new one.

Well you can't take any money with you when you are dead so might as well spend them on something fun now. Someone here said "you never see a Brinks truck follow a hearse".

So I guess we can assume you are single with no dependents.  Those of us who do have a dependent or two might prefer to make sure we save a little for them if we decide to kick the bucket first.  Just sayin'.

I tend to agree, I am very financially prudent, except with bikes.

Well my children are all grown, with their own children.  I blow a ton on new bikes, and you can't take it with you.  My wife should I pass first will be able to keep our standard of living.  Heck if I passed today, she would be much more comfortable financially than we are right now.

I agree with that.  And I am sure by then Her retired military health care, and my retired military health care will be pretty much worthless.

1.5 million set aside for retirement would not cover that.  Pretty sure less than 1% can weather more than a year of long term care financially.  I know for my mother the average rate for a Hospice room was 320 a day, and that is zero medical care.  Assisted living with medical care can run up to 1K a day.

I do have a plan.  It is reasonable, but it long term care would require a drastic change.  My goal is to have 1.6 million in investments when I retire.  Couple that with my Navy Retirement, and my wife's Navy retirement we should be able to be comfortable.  I am not counting on SS.
