Moto CO. doesn't even have enough faith in their own bikes to trust them over a measly 25k...
That's a testament to their product quality if I ever heard one. :(

I think most of us posting on this thread are guys of above average means but still need to consider the dollars because of the budget. There are some out there that will drink any coolaid they desire and not worry about a few measly thou. I was looking at an upscale real estate book seeing many homes for sale costing from ten to fifty million usd. I have no doubt they will sell and that guy could not give a chit about a little over msrp on a little motorcycle. Have you been to Cool Springs HD and seen the car lots in the area?

I also think it is not the dealer who fears the high milage, it's us. How many on this site brag about getting a good deal on the CVO with 85K on the odometer? One of my dealer says customers freak out at the 50k mark and avoid bikes with miles like that.

Used CVO's are hard to sell because the bloke wanting the thigh end bike does not fear the new sticker price.

I am buying my 3rd 2003 SERK from a site member. He's had the motorcycle since delivery from the factory and I know the history of it from A-Z. I am also buying a bunch of spares from him as I hope to hang onto this one and pass it along to a grandchild some day. Anyway, the reason I am posting here is that the seller and I first touched on this sale three years ago. The price we negotiated then still stands and we both feel comfrotable with it. What does that say ? In my opinion it says that for this bike at least the price has reached a point of stabilization. It's not going down any more and may actually be ticking up just a bit. The average on the INET that we could find was close enough that we agreed to stick with our orginal talks but it is ticking up slowly. And I think that's really what you have to look at in this entire discussion. None of the CVO bikes are 25 years old yet. I think basically until these bikes get some more years behind them that this discussion is moot. What was a 71 Dodge Challenger convertible with a Hemi or a Plymouth Barracuda rag top worth in 1974 ? Squat. Can I see a show of hands of those who would like to have an OEM 71 Challenger  or 71 Cuda in their garage right now ?

Good to hear a new Elvis will be with you. Funny two days ago was coming out of a Lowes and there sat one with a painted to match tour pack and I instantly thought of you. :2vrolijk_21:Hope all is well in your world.

Not sure if you are aware Rooster but SCRM-R sold me back the Croc/Ostrich/Scottish Leather Alligator Bob bag and seat set that truly made Elvis, Elvis. I am visiting Twolane on my way home from Maine next week and he has a piece I need to begin Elvis II. I also posted on the buying thread that I'm looking for a set of H-D 80 spoke wire wheels. Once I get the bags and seat, handlebars and wire wheels on, the rest of the transformation is small things  - - like every single piece of hardware being chrome 12 point and a bunch of other stuff. I am excited as a kid the night before Christmas. My wife and I sold our home in Poway and moved 5 miles to Scripps. We went from a huge 5 bedroom house to a two bedroom condo with a tiny single garage; but there's enough room for a motorcycle and a lift. I pick up the future Elvis II the weekend before Thanksgiving and besides being thankful for my health I will be saying a big Thanks for completing this deal on this incredible example of an 03 SERK.

Hey Spiderman,
I am jealous. Not because of Elvis I and Elvis II, I am sure they are both handsome bikes, but because you sold your house and bought a condo. I have had enough of cutting grass and shoveling snow. Someday I hope to do the same thing. Good luck with Elvis II and Stay Safe.

HeyGents, Im new here and just went through the 13 pages of posts on the CVO's. I am going to sell my 07 RG that I have over $50k in it. I couldn't decide what to get to replace it, $25k for a new RGS OTD, but nothing they had jumped out with my name on it. I just couldn't settle for something I might like if I dumped another $10k in it to get it to suit me. I figured a CVO has everything I would ever want, so my theory is "Pay for it now or spend a ton on mods and pay in the future".
I saw the 15 CVORGU but couldn't see spending $46k OTD for one, hell that was more than I paid for my wifes new Lexus.
I decided to look at used ones 2011/2012's and I must have got lucky, I found an original owned 12 RG CVO trade in at a dealer, it had 12k miles but I got it for $25k. I think I got real lucky, road it home 400 miles and put a couple hundred more on and the only thing it needs soon is a set of rear brake pads (he must have been one of those types that uses rears more).

My local dealer has a 2013 CVO Breakout with Vance and Hines pipes and a sissy bar. They want just under $28,000 for it. Bike has 3700 miles. MSRP on my 2014 CVO Breakout is $26,800.

are they not supposed to honor the sticker price

Just like the auto, RV, boat industry....a dealership can put what ever mark up they want to put.  The sticker price usually already has the mark-up rolled in to it.  The MSRP plus the mark up.  It's the American way.....supply and demand.

During the recession, when it was much harder to sell a bike, many of us bought a CVO below MSRP.....some even got extras thrown in.

Just sayin' $28,000 for a used Breakout is a pretty high price. If it sells for anywhere close to that is would be something to note. I'll let y'all know how long it takes to sell and what the final price is.

You definitely got a good deal but the sticker price on that bike was around 31K (see attached). not mean to be "Polly Anna" here but in what world can you find a vehicle that is 3 years old with 12000 miles on it that depreciated around 2K per year? What do you think the depreciation would be on your wifes Lexus after 3 model years and a body style change? A couple of guys I work with BMW Touring bikes around the time I bought mine for just about the same price and couldn't get within many thousands of what you just paid and there is no doubt that you got a great deal!!

What's interesting about buying or selling high end bikes or cars is this: When you are selling you always think it's worth more than reality, and when you are buying the logic always gravitates that it should be worth less. I guess that's just human nature.
I just bought a 2013 CVO Road King with V&H pipes and tune ($2k) and 5 year extended warranty ($1,300) with 597 miles for $26k. Some may say that's too high, but the bike is flawless and not even broken in. The guy paid over $34k all in for it.
As a buyer you always want it for less.
As a seller you look at how much of a hit you could be taking for a barely used bike (in this instance)
To me, the few bucks one way or the other fades quickly after the purchase. In my case, I got a brand new bike from a guy who is like me - a fanatic about his stuff. That made it worth it to me.

Re: CVO's hard to sell

I cant believe how hard it is to sell my CVO.  I bought it with the mis conception that the CVO's retain their value better than the standard version and that they usually go pretty quick on the used market.  Not so I guess.  Had mine for sale several times in the last few months and only some Canadian deadbeats had any interest.  Basically stock bike + exhaust and I was asking less than KBB or NADA

IMO the reason why the Canadians backed out is because they might have not done their homework when it comes to bringing the bike north of the boarder. There is a process from having to contact Canadian Customs days in advance before you show up with it to loads of paper work. Duties and taxes need to be paid. Getting it certified to meet Canadian laws (3rd brake light and Miles to KM). Cannot transfer the extended warranty. The exchange rate and your time to trailer it and on and on......at the end of the day even with the higher prices here in Canada it comes out to the same as if you got it here. Another problem with Canadians wanting CVO's is that H.D. keeps most of them in the U.S. Bad for American's as the buyer has more choices. Up here CVO's come in limited numbers so when one does come up for sale the sellers have the advantage. At the end of last year my buddy went from Toronto to Montreal to get a 2012 CVOSG. He waited and looked for awhile. Dropped $35 000 for it. He has not seen another one for sale since then. There are dealers here in Ontario who go south and buy U.S. bikes from auctions and dealers in bulk. They trailer them up in rigs like cattle and then sell them. But they do it all the time and must know where to get them real cheap to be able to make a living at it.

Another thing that I think is important when it comes to a bike is the color. What the original owner liked might not be to the liking of the new buyer. Or when the bike was made that for that year the color would have been "in" and then a few years later it is "out".

Anyway that's my Sunday morning rambling. The N.F.L. pregame is about to start. :)
