My forum friends, I know this subject has been discussed many times.
But, I was in my local dealer yesterday. There were a couple cam cases off of 110's. My curiosity got the best of me, because I have one also. I asked the service manger what's there problem? It's bad lifters. He showed them to me.
The point here is, the rollers were missing chunks of metal. Which trashed the oil pumps, cams + who knows what else. Everyone knows the rollers appear to be very finely ground. Inside the roller it appeared as large chunks of metal that had not melted together properly to form a fine grain metal. They were still intact with the lifter bodies and rolled smoothly. I don't know if the roller is cast or cut from steel an machined an heat treated. I'm not a metallergist.
I do have 60 years of working on engines an mechanical things. This is chity material for a roller. Manager say he sees them all the time! Said harley recommends changing at 15000 miles.
Well every body knows cams only turns half the RPM the engine turns, you can do the math. Are there any manufacturer in the US that build these thing to last?
