TTS Dyno Tuning Discussion with my Dealer
« on: September 13, 2014, 02:12:31 PM »

Thought I would share this experience with my dealer.
After a lot of research I purchased a TTS for my FXSBSE. There aren't a lot of Dynos up this way so I liked the options the TTS gives you, especially keeping control of the original MTE file, the ability to perform closed course tuning runs and great documentation and support. It helps that I am a technical guy and I like this stuff. The great reviews on this site also helped in my decision. Thanks for a great product Steve Cole.
I have been making several closed course tuning runs and feel very comfortable with how things are going, but for the heck of it while at my dealer the other day I thought I would ask about their Dyno services.
I should add that my relationship with my dealer is okay, they don't seem to have a very good reputation, but they were the only nearby dealer that could get me a CVO Breakout, even coming through with the colour I wanted.
I asked the Service Manager about getting my bike on the Dyno and told him I had a TTS. He looked at me kind of funny (why do these guys have to act superior to their customers?) Why would you buy one of those? he asked. I told him my reasons and I felt is was a very good solid product.
I then asked him what the cost would be, he quoted me the hourly rate and said it depended on how many pulls he would need to make, he then said that they hadn't had a lot of success with the TTS product. Hmmm! WTF? Was he trying to steer me towards the SERT?
I thanked him and told him I would let him know. I still didn't know what it would cost to get my bike Dyno'd there.
I think I will stick to my closed course tuning runs and have fun learning more about tuning with my TTS! :2vrolijk_21:

Typical BS from the typical dealership.  I'd suggest you start looking for a better one right now, in case you need repairs in the future.  Places that BS customers on simple questions like yours are places that will also jerk your chain on warranty issues.  You can get service anywhere, you don't have to use this place just because you bought the bike there.

While there may be a few really good tuners who just happen to work for a Harley dealer, your odds of finding a good tuner will be better if you search for one of the full time independents.

I believe a lot of that comes from HD SOR's feeding the dealerships a line of BS. Funny how they sold our older version from 1998 - 2008 and it was great then. Back then, HD tied our hands with what we were allowed to let the tuner use for adjustments. Many misinformed dealerships, as well as, they get what are called Bar and Shield points for selling HD products. This allows them to get more bikes to sell and other things through out the year.

Reading this post I was thinking similar thoughts - HD dealer is going to push HD parts.  Ask a Chevy salesperson what type truck you should buy...

I guess I should have expected that being a dealer they would most likely use the SERT. I am okay with that, I think most shops have a preference or have some expertise (at least they will tell you that!)on a particular tuner. I just don't like being talked to like I had an inferior product and the MOCO has the best. I would think that a Service Manager would know something about his competitors products or at least get some input from his techs.
Anyway, my rant is over, I'm moving on.
Thanks for the replies.

I bring up TTS to the HD dealers I use and they say who or whats that. All I say it works great since I installed it and tell them do not change it or mess with it while here for service.
