Should I just take her in?
« on: September 26, 2014, 10:44:35 PM »

So my new ride has been nicknamed "Herbie Fully Loaded" because it still has the OEM SE pipes.  I need to figure out what is my best bet to step it up a bit without breaking the bank...  I've only had her in the garage for a couple of weeks so getting the blessing to put $2K in pipes and tune isn't going to go over very well..  Any advice will be well received.  At first glance I am debating between a V&H solution or the Full Sac options that I hear so many raving about.  I can probably install myself on the V&H technically but just concerned with screwing something up.  Thinking Monster Ovals, Power Dual and FP3 from what I read.  So many good things said about the power cores from Full Sac but worried about cutting out the old and doing the install.  Also wondering if there tuner is something that you do yourself or if you need to take it in and have the pros do it.

Thanks for any help.

Congrats on your new ride!

If you like the stock look but what more performance, and good touring sound, nothing beats Fullsac & TTS Mastertune Turner!!!

You could do out the plugs in the cvo mufflers and see how that sounds to you. No tuning needs after that.

I am not a mechanic, but I can turn a wrench fairly competently.  I can recommend, without hesitation, the Fullsac setup.

I did it on my bike in one evening.  It took longer to load the software, etc. on my old laptop than to actually do the work.  I was really taking my time with it, too.  The whole thing went so well, we did the same mod to my brother's Limited.

If you have a Dremel (or like tool) you can easily remove the baffles.  The only other tricky part is changing out the front pipe.  You really need to remove (loosen) the front brake master cylinder.  Get  some hemostats (or long needle nose) to help getting the cotter key back in the brake pedal.

There is some satisfaction (and money savings) in doing the work oneself.  Good luck in whatever you decide.

Regards,

so bare with me for ignorance but I am learning.  If you go with the fullsac inserts don't you still have to remove the cat or buy new header pipes?

You don't have to remove the Cat from head pipe. You can just put the fullsac baffles in & ride it. Or you can drill out the plugs from the stock mufflers & it will sound better. But if you want to eliminate some of the heat & get some better performance the Fullsac & TTS is way to go. There is a thread on how to remove the plugs from the stock mufflers. I just put mufflers in a vise & used my cordless drill with extension & a 1 1/2" hole saw & drill the welds out then the plug comes out. It makes the stock mufflers sound better. If you can take off a bolt you can change out the head pipes & load the map Fullsac provides. Its not difficult at all to do.

Thanks again...  I can definitely turn a wrench but just concerned because I want to get it right the first time.  Case in point - the day before I bought my CVO I bought a Limited (Daytona blue) and traded it in the next day because I thought there were no mods that would need to be done on the SE...  I am now finding that is far from the case.

Appreciate all of you...

There is always something you can do to these things. Unless your ok with the stock configuration. Actually the Fullsac DX pipe & TTS mastertune is all that i ever do. Good luck in whatever you decide. Nice bike btw. I just traded mine for a 2015 CVO Roadglide Ultra.

Thanks...  We are hoping to get it out more if we can ever get some clear days in N FL that I don't have Drill with the FLNG...

Take Care.

If you go the dyi / Fullsac route, these should be helpful:

Removing a Catalytic Converter form 09 CVO Road Glide

Installing Fullsac Baffles on 09 CVO Road Glide

Good luck!

It you have the skill to download something to/from your computer, can use a Dremel tool and a drill, the Fullsac setup is nothing to fret.  If you have a problem, Steve at Fullsac, Steve at TTS and a slew of forum members can help.  It's the least expensive way to upgrade your exhaust.

I'll be the next to recommend the Fullsac system - Fullsac head pipe (which will eliminate the cat) their baffles installed into your stock mufflers and the TTS -- Great products, Great customer service , and it WON"T cost you that 2 grand when you do the install yourself on one of those rainy days you don't want to ride. The work is straightforward and will take you an afternoon to complete.
