2015 FLHXSE CVO Performance
« on: October 14, 2014, 02:50:05 PM »

Wandering if I should tinker with my 15 FLHXSE performance. Just broke her in and she runs great... lots of power... I have V&H power duals and hi output slip ons with a V&H fuel pak 3 on order. Any thoughts...???  Should I leave the headers stock and just use the slipons and fuelpak?????

I would take off the stock header to eliminate the catalytic converter.

You said it runs great, lots of power. I think you answered your own question?  :nixweiss:

If you're happy with how the bike runs right now, I certainly wouldn't feel it's necessary to spend a bunch of money changing things just because that's what other people do.  You didn't buy the bike to satisfy any of us, you bought it (hopefully) to satisfy you.

Thx Jerry
I like loud though I think its a lot safer cause people hear ya and makes them more aware of the bike especially on the freeway (lane changes) .. I just don't want to lose any power by altering the pipes etc.

You'd gain power in most cases.

I would take off the stock header to eliminate the catalytic converter.

I would too. I would also buy a real tuning device and get a proper tune... that makes all the difference in the world.

Well you can get by with the slip-ons but if you install the power duals (headers) you will need a tuner and dyno run. There hasn't been a lot of buzz here on the fuelpak III but if the install suggests that you disable the 02 sensors most of our experts will advise against it (and the fuelpak) that is why N.GA.Hawg has suggested a "real" tuner.

JSwerve has done a lot to his engine, but he has also mentioned that if he had to do it again he "might" not go as far. Just make it look good and sound good, and RIDE it.  I agree.

My 2011 is setup with V&H power duals and Hi-outputs (sound familiar) also a tuner and dyno run. I do not intend to take it any further, there is enough power for me. I also replaced my lifters and pushrods but it appears HD has since addressed this weakness and something you need not worry about.

For now, if it were mine, I would install the slip-ons and stop, ride it and enjoy it, and move forward cautiously with additional engine mods. If you find you need more power there are some very good resources here to help guide you through the process.

If you're satisfied with her now, what are looking to do?
I'd Leave her stock & have a reputable tuner dial er' in for improved drivability & enjoy

I didn't know that about the V&H FuelPak... But anything that requires you to disable the O2 sensors is a VERY BAD THING. Since the advent of O2 sensors on Harleys in 2007 (or was it 2006?), the Delphi ECM has been coded to run the bulk of the cells in closed-loop operation, in order to have the data from which to make adjustments to the AFR while running. No O2 sensor input means no data as to what's really going on in the exhaust stream. That's forcing the ECM to fly blind and simply guess what the AFR should be at any point in time.

That's a Giant Step Backwards! Why would any product do that?

V&H supplies "isolators" (plastic spacers) that clip to the 02 sensor clip and then to the 02 harnesses.  This (they claim) makes their FP maps work.  Got my tail into a ringer over that one Ken, but I did try it for a month. The hesitating and popping taught me my lesson. As to "WHY" they recommend this, I cannot explain, but they (do)did. FP III is supposedly different, and I don't know if this is still the procedure, if it is, wildmannn has both of our opinions (don't do it) and based on my experience, everyone's else's opinion as well.

Not interested in hijacking your thread on a fuelpak tangent WM, but this is how we hash things out here. It's how I learned from these guys and you will too.

FP3 does not require that to my knowledge. I have the Fuelpack FP3 in 2014 CVO Road King with power duals and monster rounds and it runs great. Never even needed to autotune since there is a map just for my setup.
No hesitating or popping. I have about 2,000 miles on the setup. Amazing torque and power.

I have the same header pipe and mufflers on my 15 FLHXSE with 1500 miles on her. The difference is my bike has been dyno tuned with the TTS master tune. The bike is performing great 93.2 HP and 107.85 ft-lbs torque, with very good drive-ability. I am however experiencing significant decel pop which apparently is a problem with the newer twin cooled motor ECM's. The V&H power dual header is a great pipe and the high output slip-ons produce a very nice sound IMO. Do not know much about the Fuel Pak. I have had the TTS on several bikes and have been very pleased.

Use a REAL tuner............

What is your definition of a "REAL" tuner?

You may find that the new V&H FP3 does everything a "REAL" tuner does but more efficiently...and without the cost of half a day on a dyno.

I've got the V&H Power Duals, CVO 4" cans and 2 1/4 Fullsac cores, V&H FP3 and SE Heavy Breather on my 15 FLTRUSE and it flies.  I had the same setup on my 09 SERG only used the SE Race tuner with a Dyno tune.  Right now, I'd say the two bikes run pretty even.
