If my recollection is correct (I'm getting older too), 96" motors did not have cats in '09 except in California.  You can easily check by pulling the right muffler.  If you see a cat in the collector pipe, you may find this to be your solution:  Removing a Catalytic Converter form 09 CVO Road Glide.  Good luck!

Chosa's Harley-Davidson in Mesa used to be a great dealer but I haven't been there in about four years.  I've never hear of an exhaust pipe getting clogged but it must be possible.  Reminds me of the banana scene from Beverly Hills Cop.    :huepfenlol2:   It's does get hot in Mesa.    :nixweiss:

yes, for the cali bikes. Either get a 49 state 09 headpipe or have it cut and remove the cat material. A tuner such as TTS and a tune will serve you well also.

good luck

for quite a while the non cat 09 head pipes were quite sought after - they can be used on 07's with good results...

hence there are few takeoff's to be found these days.

To go back to the first response, don't bother removing the left muffler to see if there is a catalyst in the collector, since you won't be able to see around the two 90° bends.  Remove the right muffler instead, so you have a straight shot.

It would be unusual for the cat or the pipe to be clogged, but if it was the bike would barely run (kind of like stuffing a potato in the pipe, if you know what I mean).  If the cat is getting hotter than it used to, that might be an indication that the mixture has become richer and the excess fuel is being burned in the cat.  If that's the case, there might be a problem with the EFI.
