Another road I really enjoyed was in North Georgia -- 348 / Richard B. Russell Scenic Highway in Helen, GA

welcome to Norway, all the roads in my country look like that  ::)

Many sure are, I have not been to your area, Oslo.  I have spent some time in Stavanger, a month.  Then 10 days in Tronhiem.  Would love to tour your country on Bike, as it is very Beautiful, but very expensive too.

I can think of many better roads in NC, TN or North GA, that offer better curves, better views, and more of a challenge.

Highway 123 in Arkansas, the section northeast of highway 7. Some people call it the Arkansas dragon. Did not see a single other vehicle except for some locals parked at a swimming hole. The closest thing to traffic was a black bear running along the shoulder. The section southwest of 7 was cool also, not as technical but it featured a one lane bridge.
Ark 123 is one great road. A must if you haven't done it.

Like most of us I had to ride the Dragon just to say I've done it and it is a fun road, but I prefer The Parkway and The Charahola in that area. They offer some technical riding, along with some great sweeps, and excellent scenery. :2vrolijk_21:

Marty I agree with you that the two roads you mentioned are overall more enjoyable than the Dragon for sweeps and scenery but I differ about the technical riding of the Parkway. I like the road but I find it very easy to ride bordering on boring from the technical or challenge perspective. I think the road is over engineered and the corners are to identical. They never seem to sharpen enough to apply the brakes if you are traveling the speed limit. In fact it is the one mountain road that you can set your cruise control at the legal speed limit and never touch the brake or throttle. Very nice leisurely  cruise with excellent views of the mountains but not a challenging road to ride, unless your way over the speed limit.  :D

Foothills parkway is a favorite ride of mine.  You are correct easy to set cruise at 45, the speed limit, put your feet on the hwy pegs and just cruise enjoying the secenery and never touch the brakes for the hole 19 miles.  I usualy like to ride it at 55, ten over, makes it much more enjoyable.

Sad thing is many times there are folks on Harleys that strugle to maintain 40 mph on it.

This last fall I did the Foothills Parkway at the perfect day and weather for the fall colors. That was one time I did not mind doing the speed limit as i was in awe from the colors. It very much depend on my mood wether I want the easy rolling cruise of the Parkways or the more aggressive ride on less popular roads.

Every visitor needs to do the Dragon but if you want the real treasures call a local to the area for the real hidden gems.

I understand your way of thinking when you talk about lack of technical challenge, because of the roads you usually ride, but for some of us visitors to the area that can see the road for 6 miles ahead of us where we normally ride,  there is a bit of challenge in these mountain roads  :) and that's why we visit.  ;) :drink:

The Dragons Tail great claim to fame is its 117 turns in 11 miles!"
We had some guys from Iowa visit a few years ago who wore custom made shirts proclaiming:
"Iowa, 11 turns in 117 miles!"

You know what? After I posted what I did I thought about the fact that if others were to come from the flat land of straight roads, like I did from Florida, a lazy sweeper road like the BR Parkway would be very interesting and considered very curvy and challenging. I officially apologize for for any disrespect that I may have shown. Marty you are absolutely correct.

I remember coming from Florida and being terrified of my uncles driving on the roads around Asheville NC. The steep drop offs and curves were scary.
