    • CVO1: 2015 FLHXSE U/V Blue,Molten Lava

Hey guys,   I need a little clarification on the ordering of a cvosg,  Put money down at the end of October at my local dealer. At that time they told me about 4 to 5 weeks. Stopped in before Xmas and they told me you can't order CVO's from the factory. They said they may only find out If they are getting one a couple days before delivery.  I read on here that some of you guys are getting delivery dates and vin numbers before delivery. It sounds to me that you dealers are able to order from the factory, or am I miss understanding the ordering thing. Would be great If someone could shead some light on this. Thanks

I ordered mine directly from the factory at my local dealer.  My dealer kept me posted on its progress from order to assembly to Vin number assigned.  I can't tell you if it was ordered in my name or if the dealer ordered it under their dealership name with the understanding that it was sold to me before manufacturing started.  What I can tell you is that the dealer placed an order at the factory for the specific model and color I requested.

Put a deposit on mine the day after the dealer's meeting this year. They ordered it 3 days later. Took 3 1/2 months to get it. My dealer has told me that all of their allotted CVOs are spoken for this year.

I put my deposit down in sept. The dealer told me that he was allotted 4 cvo's, and that he had put in a request for six more. I was also told as you, that they wouldn't know when they would arrive, until such time that he recieves an e-mail of the VIN.

    • CVO1: 2011.5 FLHTCUSE6 - SOLD
    • CVO2: 2001 FLSTFI - non CVO, but really cool

Dealers usually have a good idea how many CVO's they are allotted for the model year. I'm under the impression the allotment is based on how many bikes(both non-CVO and CVO) the dealer sells the previous year, but I could be wrong on that. Anyway when I decided to purchase my 11.5 I went to my dealer and asked if he had one coming or could get me one - he didn't know for sure if he was going to be allotted an 11.5 or not, but they could order one for me. I put my deposit down, they ordered the bike and 6 weeks later it was delivered..
I think you need to have another discussion with your dealer -- about getting the deposit back. Then find a reputable dealer who will either find you one or order the one you want. When I say find you one I mean that many dealers are willing to "trade" among themselves to get the bike you want in order to please a customer.

With CVO's dealers earn allocations based on Sales volume and CVO sales volume.  Some dealers will never get a CVO to sell, some just a few and some lots.

Dealers know for the first two Quarters how many of each model they will get, what color each will be.  They also know with in a couple weeks when they will get them.  They may have an opertunity to get an extra one if another dealer decilines there alloted CVO.  In October the dealer learns what ones they are getting for the 3rd quarter.  They again learn the model, color and rough date.

They can request more, but only tend to get them if other dealers do not want all they are alloted.

Dealer can not usually get more than alloted.

I know my dealer who has a very high allocation of CVO's had all 8 of his alloted CVO Road Glide Ultras sold before the first one hit the dealership.  If he could order more he would.  He has people waiting since Sept for 4th quarter bikes.

Knowing this, I had put down a deposit on a 15 CVO road glide long before it was announced, as in 6 months or so.  I was second in line doing this.  A friend was first, but he passed on the first color that came in, and I took it.

I in 13 had a deposit on the Anniversay CVO Road Glide and CVO Road King, both in anniversary color.  This again was before I knew they would make either.  I was first in line for either and decided I wanted the King, another friend got the Road Glide.

This is why these bikes cost the way they do in part. There is a demand for the CVO Limited and RGs much more than the RKs and Softails. The CVO Dyna faired less well.

The dealer can not just up and order any or all the CVOs he wants. After all they are all "custom made" right?? LOL!

Are you saying the "C" in CVO should be changed from Custom Vehicle Operation to something else?? ...like maybe Clueless Vehicle Operations?

    • CVO1: 06 FLHTCUSE Autumn Haze -SOLD
    • CVO2: 09 FLTRSE3 Orange- sold
    • CVO3: Who knows what?

It's been a couple of years since I talked to the owners of the two local dealers here but they had different policies on CVO and regular bike orders.
One dealership chain would not accept deposits on bikes because they stated they didn't want to be legally bound to provide a particular bike especially if something happened beyond their control such as MOCO stopped production or a crash occurred during transport etc. So they would take your name and info and it was like a first come first right of refusal for when a bike arrived at some future unknown date. They would not call in advance to say XYZ bike was being made or on it's way , they only called when bike was at their shop. They would hold the bike for the buyer for 24 hours so they could see the bike and get paperwork signed otherwise next person was called and they were offered bike. Back in 2009 sales of CVOs had slowed and the dealer had one of each color Roadglide on floor with no waiting on purchase.
The other chain of dealerships would take cash deposits and had a computer printout to show which quarter they expected certain bikes to arrive so they would notify buyers of possible arrival. They explained to me that the owner attended dealer meeting/reveal of CVO bikes and he would place an order at the meeting for specific colors he wanted. His allotment was based on prior sales according to them.

Not sure if these policies are still in effect now or not.

    • CVO1: Silver/Black 2015 Street Glide.

We have the same deal here in Australia especially with the 2015 CVO models. If you want a CVO now you need to know someone in a dealership and have them do a search through all there contacts, hopefully some one has pulled out of a sale. If not you have no chance to get one as they were all presold last year. I was just lucky and have an old mate that works for a large Dealership.  :)  my bike has not been built yet its a last quarter bike delivery some time in May.  :(

It used to be the case, and maybe still is, that dealers ordered bikes quarterly.  They don't get to pick the exact number of bikes of any specific model.  That's predetermined by their previous years sales numbers.  In other words they can't order an overwhelming number of the best selling model and omit weak selling bikes altogether.  As fara as CVO's go, they know approx how many they can order, but I'm not sure if they can pick the colors they'll receive.
