With CVO's dealers earn allocations based on Sales volume and CVO sales volume. Some dealers will never get a CVO to sell, some just a few and some lots.
Dealers know for the first two Quarters how many of each model they will get, what color each will be. They also know with in a couple weeks when they will get them. They may have an opertunity to get an extra one if another dealer decilines there alloted CVO. In October the dealer learns what ones they are getting for the 3rd quarter. They again learn the model, color and rough date.
They can request more, but only tend to get them if other dealers do not want all they are alloted.
Dealer can not usually get more than alloted.
I know my dealer who has a very high allocation of CVO's had all 8 of his alloted CVO Road Glide Ultras sold before the first one hit the dealership. If he could order more he would. He has people waiting since Sept for 4th quarter bikes.
Knowing this, I had put down a deposit on a 15 CVO road glide long before it was announced, as in 6 months or so. I was second in line doing this. A friend was first, but he passed on the first color that came in, and I took it.
I in 13 had a deposit on the Anniversay CVO Road Glide and CVO Road King, both in anniversary color. This again was before I knew they would make either. I was first in line for either and decided I wanted the King, another friend got the Road Glide.
