2012 CVO SG and iPod dropping connection to headunit
« on: January 25, 2012, 07:19:16 PM »

Anyone else having issues with their iPod + head-unit "losing" connection sporadically? Every 3-4 times I start up the bike I can see the song playing but there's no audio. Or I have audio and can see the song name but I don't see any of the other controls (Shuffle, Repeat etc). The fix is to unplug the iPod and plug it back in but it's annoying on a brand new bike. Just wanted to check here before I take it to the dealership.

Are you shutting the bike off with the radio on??  If so, try turning the radio off before you shut the ignition switch.

I am. You're not supposed to? I'll try to turn off the radio first and see if that helps...

Sometimes I have to push the Mode Sel button on the right switch housing, to cycle through the audio sources until I get to the iPod... then it starts working properly again.

Yup.  Happens with me also.  Fix (without unplugging/replugging iPod) is to move about the various play options using the soft buttons, and eventually it will start playing again, though from track one. Crappy firmware from the MoCo.

I corrected it by shutting the radio off before the ignition switch.

Once it becomes a habit, you won't even notice you are doing it.   :2vrolijk_21:

I guess, shame to have to do it though.

Where do you store the IPod when using it, I just bought a 2012.

There's a pocket for it in the lid of the right-side saddlebag.

That works now and again for me, but not reliably, Terry.  When I get back to the iPod selection, it usually plays a second or less of the song, then the audio disappears again.

Same here. I tried to switch mode and cycle back to iPod and I could hear sound for a fraction of a second and then silence. If I switch to FM I get audio though. It's just the iPod.

Seems like for now trick is to push the soft-buttons and/or get in the habit of turning off the head unit.

Yup.  You'd think for the money this stuff costs, though, The MoCo would do some work on the firmware to fix this...
