Title: Dodge Challenger
Post by: 70_GTX on November 30, 2007, 10:33:21 PM
Dealer called today and said I could come in Monday and order my new Challenger. Special, numbered SRT-8. Silver, black or orange. I don't know if an SRT-8 is in my future, but I am going to have a Challenger and I told the dealer about nine months ago to let me know when it was time to order. Guess I'll go in and see how he's willing to deal. I already told him that I would not pay over sticker for one. I'm willing to wait until everyone gets over the "Hots" for them.

If they give you any literature on it, it would be cool if you could scan and post.  I think it would be tough not to go with the SRT version! :o

They have some info on dodge.com under the Challenger section. It talks about the SRT order date of the third of Dec. and the base price and other spec's.

Still only the concept photos, though.  Can't wait to see how close the real thing ends up being.  I think it is supposed to debut in Chicago this year.

Went in to see the dealer today. The only info he had was a type-written page. No pictures. The literature gave a price of $37,995. There were only about three options that could be added to the package. It comes standard with the 22X customer preferred package. The online ad says that pricing starts at $40,095. I don't know why the descrepancy. I asked the dealer if it will have the gas guzzler tax and he said that the literature doesn't show it. The dealership owner had already made his order. He ordered one with every option and in black. He wanted a six speed manual, but that is not available. It only comes as a five speed auto. The dealer said that he may cancel his order if that is a deal breaker. The wife said to order an orange one. So, we did. No options, other than the standard package. The literature says that they will be here in the spring, no definite time frame. The dealer also said that if it came in and we really didn't want it, he'd have no problem selling it. He also said that they have not heard a date for regular production ordering. He also said thet the larger dealers would probably get their orders first, so ours may arrive later. The owners car was ordered at 10:30 local time and ours was ordered at 1:30 local. There were 6,000 numbers difference in our VON numbers. I don't really know what that tells us. I doubt that there were 6,000 SRT8 Challengers sold in that space. Maybe 6,000 total Dodge orders ? Anyway, I'm excited.

I have the regular Hemi version Charger.  The SRT version is a BLAST to drive - helluva lotta fun.  Bet the Challenger will be as well. Post some pics when you get it.  BTW - the 5 speed auto is ok & for me the manual was not an option since my better half can't drive a manual.  Good luck!

Kathy, Helen has a2006 Charger with the 3.5 litre 250 HP and it gets 24*26 mpg on the highway and 20-22 around town. My Ram has the Hemi and I get 14-15 mpg in town and 18-20 mpg highway if I "baby it". Some can't live without HP though. Right Brian.  :nixweiss:   ;D

Overall, about 21 mpg.  Never less than 20 mpg since I bought it - per tank.  Do not do much town driving, so figure its around 17-19 mpg town, 22-23 mpg hwy.  Uses mid-grade - 89 octane gas.

Mine is the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 with 340 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft.  of torque.  Runs like a scalded dog.   :huepfenjump3:

I saw the Challenger at the intro show last month in Las Vegas.

Any details I had have already been stated here.

It is a great looking car in person and I imagine the early ones will bring some profit to anyone that doesn't want to keep it.

Not sure if it has been stated above but the 6 speed manual will be offered in the SRT 8 in the 2009 Model Year.

I'm waiting until the initial fury is gone and to get the manual.

IMHO this along with the Mustang have the best execution of a modern rendition of a "pony" car.  Somehow the Camaro didn't make it for me.

Good choice of colors!  A friend and I were talking today and he asked what color would I get if I was getting one.  I said it would be tough not to get the orange and he agreed.  I'm sure they will all look good, but a car like that needs to be bright! :shocked2: :divers009: :sunny:

I put my order in yesterday for the new Challenger. Base sticker of $37,230 plus $675 destination is $37,995. There is $2,100 gas guzzler tax and only three options availible. A tire upgrade for $50, $950 for sunroof and $890 for the MyGIG system w/ Nav. Total $41,895 MSRP. I've only got $2,558 between invoice and MSRP, the factory won't let us make any money, boss says that we'll hold out for sticker on this one. I don't have a deposit on the car yet, so if anybody wants one let me know. Factory says we are only going to get one of this first run of SRT-8's. This one is ordered in black, but that could be changed (if it's done soon enough) if someone the silver or orange. I wanted to order the orange, but my boss doesn't like the loud colors like I do. I'm guessing that it will be April or May before the car arrives.
I heard that the first two cars off of the line will be auctioned at Barrett-Jackson in January. I always enjoy watching that, My girlfriend thinks I'm nuts for watching a car auction on TV.  ;D

Its gotta be that ethanol.  Actually, the stuff is lousy as far as gas mileage.  Couldn't be the 87 mph.....  ::)

80-90% of my driving is non town & lots of that is interstate.  I check mileage about once a week but not on the computer - the old fashioned way.  The 8 cyl engine has a gas saving feature:

"The multiple displacement system features fast electronic controls, sophisticated control algorithms, and electronic throttle control, moving from eight cylinders to four in 40 milliseconds (0.04 seconds)."

Never notice that but it improves overall mileage.

I watch Barrett Jackson, too.  Interesting how the old muscle cars are worth a fortune now.

Just because I got a VON, doesn't mean that I will get a car. We don't know what arbitrary number Chrysler has chosen to make the cut-off. I have not heard how many orders they received on the first day. Are they just going to produce the orders they received in the first fifteen minutes or the first day or only 1500 ? Who knows. Hopefully I'm in there.
I visited the Terre Haute dealership yesterday and asked how many orders they made. Terre Haute is the largest town near me. The place where Larry Bird played college basketball. They said they ordered a black one for dealer stock. The owner of our dealership has decided to keep his order even though it will not be a manual six speed.
I noticed yesterday that there is someone on E-bay auctioning off his to anyone willing to pay $18 or $19 thousand over sticker. Someone has already called him a bandit in a question to the seller.

Just because I got a VON, doesn't mean that I will get a car.

Not sure if all of the first year get a special number or whatever, but it seems to me I recall a number around 6,000 for the first year of production when I was at the Chrysler intro show in Vegas, keeping in mind it isn't a full year and then the 2010 model will begin with the 6 speed maual.

Like you said, hard to know what the full details are.  I know when the SRT 8 Grand Cherokee came out we didn't get one for a year, but dealers smaller than us got them.  There is no way to know who gets what, for the most part though the bigger metro dealers get the bulk of the cars.

The guys on dodgechallenger.com seem to think the production number for the SRT8's will be in the 4500 to 5000 area. Some say one per dealer except the major markets. One guy acted like he was in sales for a larger dealer and had ordered four cars on Monday. They say about half the dealers are selling at MRSP and the other half are selling ten to fifteen thousand over.

I have an appointment for a 30,000 mile service on my Rumble Bee a week from Saturday at Roanoke Motors (http://roanoke.fivestardealers.com/) and should be able to get some more poop on the SRT8 Challengers from the owner, John, then.  Depending on what year you look, they are #1 or #2 in Viper sales in the nation and always have a large SRT inventory on hand, so John is alway pretty up to speed with what's going on.  It will be interesting to learn how many Challengers he ordered on Monday and throughout this week and next and how many SRT8s he's been told to expect for the 2008 model year.

Title: Re: Dodge Challenger
Post by: RJ749 on December 05, 2007, 09:31:52 PM
It isn't a big number whether around 5 or 6 thousand.  It should allow the dealers to have a vehicle that will hold the MSRP price without argument and for those in markets like L A and Florida the price will be over MSRP undoubtedly.

Honestly, I can't bring myself to charge over MSRP even on hot product, I'd rather look the customer in the face two years from now when it's just another set of wheels when he wants to trade it.  Started that way in 1979 when Porsche Turbos were going for $20 over the $45 MSRP, I still sell several of the 79 Turbo guys Porsches today and a few that paid over elsewhere and never went back.

Regardless, the Challenger is a winner and anyone who gets one is going to have some fun.  I'm just holding out for the manual trans.

I received an update today via e-mail. The official Dodge website stated that there were over 4300 orders on Monday and they have over 6000 now. Over half the ordered cars are orange. They still don't say how many they will build. If I read the notice correctly, when regular production ordering is available, they will be called "09's". Therefore, only this batch of SRT8's will be "08's". The website also gives small stamp-like pictures of parts of the supposed production car. No picture of the complete car. Grill, gas cap, wheel, spoiler and exhaust tip.

I dunno, it's going to get harder and harder to look the other way once these things hit the streets.  I'd have to wait for the 6-speed manual, though.  I wanted a manual when I bought my '97 30th Anniversary Z28, but didn't get one because I wanted my wife to be able to drive it.  Well, I think she probably drove it about a dozen times while I owned it, so I won't make that mistake again, LOL.  I think I would still have that car if it would've had a 6-speed.  Fun car, it was just missing that little "extra."

Well, the cat is out of the bag, I'm hoping that Scooters new car will be in April or May. I had one other site member send a PM Friday night that I didn't get until Sat AM when I got to work, he wanted to put a deposit down on the car------You know who you are---sorry about that. I really pissed off one of my cutomers on Saturday. I had left him a message on Monday that the car was availible to order and he was out of town and didn't return my call until Thursday Pm, Said he would be "probably" on Sat to give a deposit. Well, our policy here is "first money talks". Anyway, This car is going to be one bad mamma jamma. We've sold six or seven SRT-8 Chargers and Magnums but I haven't had a chance to drive one, We've got another policy around here---you NEVER drive a sold vehicle anywhere, because if you do, something will happen, it will get damaged somehow. You can bet I'll get to drive this one, I already told him so. :2vrolijk_21:

Everyone have a good week!

My first car, when I was sixteen years old, was a Dodge Challenger.   ::)memories ::) 10 miles per gallon no matter how you drove it.  It would spin its tires in two inches of snow at an idle on level ground, trunk could hold either the spare or something else.  I miss that car...  If I had room for a fourth vehicle I'd be on the list.

OK, Has anybody truly read somewhere official that there will be only one per dealer ? I have heard of many stories of multiple sales at various dealerships. Since I ordered mine on December 3rd and was the second of two orders that day, I am somewhat concerned. I talked to my dealer yesterday and he had not heard or seen any such restriction. In fact, last week about Wednesday, the area sales rep called him to make sure that he had made his Challenger orders. When he told the rep that he had ordered two on Monday, the rep said  "Great." If there were any restrictions in place, the dealer said that he thought the rep would have mentioned it. As I said, I am not too concerned but it does gnaw at my stomach a little. I fully realize our small dealership will probably be the last to get theirs and the major markets will see them first. But, with all the connections on this sight, I thought somebody might be able to clear this up.

I talked with John, the owner of Roanoke Motors in Roanoke, IL on Saturday morning.  He said they'd taken 47 orders so far, but that he fully expected that "many" of those would turn into orders for the following model year.  He didn't say squat about any "one car per dealer" restrictions, though, and with orders that high, he's going to need to get multiple cars or he'll have a lot of pi$$ed of folks.  He did say that he thought the total production for next year was going to be capped at 5,000, but I saw something on a program on the SPEED channel a few days ago where a representative of Chrysler mentioned it won't exceed 10,000, but that the exact number had not yet been determined.

As far as what dealers get cars, with the ordering process that was used, you'd have to think it's first come, first served.

Title: Re: Dodge Challenger
Post by: 70_GTX on December 17, 2007, 11:53:48 PM
Well, I hope you're right about the first come first served. Since I am one of the first day orders. I noticed seventeen of these cars on E-bay this evening, with the most expensive being $20,000 over sticker. Most are saying a production of 4,500 but that is what you would say if you were trying to sell the exclusivity point. One high volume dealer in northen Indiana says that he has three coming in, two orange and one black. All fully loaded. Another small dealer north of me in Paris, Illinois ordered a black one for dealer stock. The wife is all fired up about going up to the Chicago auto show in February, just to get an early look at one. I've never been, so it could be a fun thing to do.

Oh, man, you've never been?!?  Fun is an understatement! :huepfenjump3:  That show is great!  My only suggestion would be to get your tickets online so you're not dealing with the lines and to go during the week if you can.  I usually take a day of work (ususally Tuesday or Wednesday) since the crowds are not quite as bad during the week.

YOU need to get fired up about it, too!  You'll have a great time!

Yesterday, I was out with a friend of mine who is into Mustangs. We stopped at a dealership near here to look at a Mustang GT 500. It was a sharp car. Red exterior with white stripes. The interior was black/red. Manual transmission. It had an inflated price of $49,999 but the owner of the dealership told us that they would accept the sticker MSRP of around $45,000. My friend declined but I was curious about the gas guzzler tax. The Mustang's guzzler tax was only $1300 compared to the Challenger's $2100. I thought that their mileage ratings were similar but I found out that small differences make quite a difference in the tax. Notice the following Government table. My GTX's tax would be $7700. I think the Mustang's mileage figures are identical to an SRT-8 Charger's. So, I am still a little puzzled how they figured it.

at least 22.5 No tax
at least 21.5, but less than 22.5 $1000
at least 20.5, but less than 21.5 $1300
at least 19.5, but less than 20.5 $1700
at least 18.5, but less than 19.5 $2100
at least 17.5, but less than 18.5 $2600
at least 16.5, but less than 17.5 $3000
at least 15.5, but less than 16.5 $3700
at least 14.5, but less than 15.5 $4500
at least 13.5, but less than 14.5 $5400
at least 12.5, but less than 13.5 $6400
less than 12.5 $7700

I was out getting my truck serviced today and the dealer called me in to his office to talk about the Challenger. He said that last week the status of the black one that was ordered for the dealership owner had been changed from "Order has passed edit but cannot be considered for scheduling." to "Tentative Schedule." My car's status was changed from "Order has passed edit but cannot be considered for scheduling." to "Good order-available for scheduling." He is thinking that means they have parts for the car but it won't necessarily be made for me. I guess that's where the Big Dealerships have the advantage. He is still very hopefull because of his past experience. He says sold cars tend to get built before dealerstock orders. I hope he is correct.

My cars status hasn't changed yet. My dealer had me call Chrysler customer service to see if I could get someone to tell me if my car had a chance of being built or not. So, I gave them a call and I had to tell the guy the Challenger family code before he could even find my order. He was nice and friendly but was not much help. He said that I was ahead of a lot of others but he could not say if my car would be built or not. The dealer wanted to know, so he could ask another local dealer for his dealerstock ordered car. That was last week and since my status has not changed, he wants me to call them again next week. He says to try and get past the first guy I talk to. He says he has had people from all over calling and trying to get a Challenger from him. People from upstate and from as far away as Oklahoma.
I odered tickets this morning for the Chicago Auto Show. We plan on going on the 8th of February. We are going to take AMTRAK from the closest location and ride it to Chicago. We were advised to take a cab from the AMTRAK station to McCormick Center. They told us that the state funding for the mass transit system is in shambles and that the system is unreliable and the price was expected to triple after the first of the year. So, that's the plan for now.

There is a lot of political stuff going on with the mass transit system right now.  The Illinois govenor and Mayor Daley are playing poker.  Daley will win - he always does...   But for now, take the cab...and enjoy the show!

I believe that once the total for the manufacturer is figured the manufacturer decides how to collect it; ie: none on automatics, all of it divided among the manuals etc.  Also, it's for fleet average and if you have a big production number with high mileage models I believe there is some credit because of the average.

This is why Porsche ran a bill that would allow an exemption for a low volume manufacturer, it failed to pass.

I only recently learned that on most models that don't meet it Porsche buys it down.

Don't take this all as fact but it is my understanding, thin as it is on quotable research.

I've been calling customer service every Monday for the last three weeks. My dealer advised that the squeaky wheel might get his car. Mine has still got a BX status. Today, the lady assured me that my car will be built but she couldn't tell me when. I hope she is correct but I'm cautious about what she actually knows.

I was just reviewing my "Dealer Order Status" report. I have 4 challengers ordered. The first one was ordered 12/4/07 and is a "sold order" with Scooterhairs name on it, it is in "C" status. The other 3 were entered as sold units (that aren't really sold) with dealership employees names on them, they are in "BX" status.
BX is the first place an order goes. It means--- good order availible for scheduling. C status is the next section in the scheduling process, which means --- tenative schedule. What we will be looking for next is D status --- which is firm schedule: serial number assigned, then D1 --- gateline: plant has sequenced the unit for production, estimated ship date asssigned. From there we go into build status, E for framing, F for paint, and G for trim. After that we are looking for KZ status ---released by plant and invoiced, from there it shouldn't be more than about two weeks in shipping before it arrives here at the dealership. I'm only 99% sure that I am going to get this first car, I say 99% because I've been with Chrysler (in 2 dealerships) for 22 years and have seen them do some s&*tty stuff to some small dealers. I would say that I will not get the other 3 cars on this first 2008.5 model run.
Scooter is getting real anxious for his car. He asks me every day, "when is my car going to be here". I always tell him the same thing----"I think they shipped yesterday, should be here tomorrow or the next day".
One thing that I have seen in the past is, just because you have "BX" on your order, doesn't necessarily mean you are going to get the car, it just means they (Chrysler) has recieved the order. You are only going to get what you are allocated. It is my opinion that dealers are not going to get more than one each of this first run of cars.

Some non-SRT8's are now being spotted. I bet those outside Roush don't stay stock for long. The torque numbers for the new 5.7 to the 6.1 are real close, only reportedly 13 apart..

I see the local Ford guy has 5 GT500's in stock.  I imagine those have seen the high dollor day.  Now it's the KR's that will be hot.

From what you can see of the gauge pod, it looks pretty true to the concept car.

Edit: Just realized that's a 6-speed, so either it is the concept car, or a 2009 model.

#1 Production 2008 Challenger SRT8 goes for $400K

On January 19, 2008, after much anticipation, the very first production 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 was sold at auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. The price tag? A whopping $400,000. All proceeds from the sale will go to charity.

Packing a 6.1-liter HEMI® V8 engine under the hood, the All-New 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 will debut to the public at the Chicago Auto Show on February 6, 2008. Get ready for the second coming.

Talked to my sales manager today and he said he had some bad news. He hit the regional sales rep up yesterday about my car. It's still in the BX status. The area rep said it looked like my car wouldn't get made before July. That's the end of the 2008 run. I'm still going to try and make some contacts on up the ladder. Seems like that if my order was in the first 4300 and they are making 6400, I should have a shot. It won't be the end of the world but I was excited. Mine would have actually been a driver. If this deal falls through, I'll probably get a 2009 R/T. It's what the wife wanted in the first place. She was really wanting a red car. Still, I'm not going to give up on that 425 hp without trying as hard as I can. What really is hard to take, is that my dealer wasn't charging me a penny over MSRP. His boss, the dealership owner, will set his in the storage building with his two Vipers and Ford GT40. The manager said he would really like to see one on the streets in our area.

I had my Rumble Bee serviced today and spent quite a bit of time talking with the Business Manager at the dealer I go to.  He has a 2008 Challenger order in, as well, and was saying he hoped it wouldn't get built so that he would be price-protected for an '09.  Rumor has it that the '09 SRT Challenger will be a larger-displacement, 392 cubic inch HEMI with 500HP and a 6-speed manual to compete with the new Camaro and hi-horsepower Mustang offerings.  It's all speculation at this point, but that is what they have been hearing.  He also mentioned there is a possibility that they will build as many as 9,000 2008 models.  He said 2008s are supposed to begin shipping in April, but he thought it may get pushed out.  If so, it will be hard to imagine them getting the numbers built before it's time to start production on the '09s.

A buddy says this week's Auto Week magazine has a few photos of the production car, including some interior shots.  My issue hasn't arrived yet, but here's are a few photos off their website:

From what I understand, all of the 08's that will be built are spoken for, unless you want to pay 10 - 15k over sticker. Realisticly, I'd say anyone else who wants one will have to wait on an 09, unless you have a bunch of extra money you want to spend.

I always enjoy watching that, My girlfriend thinks I'm nuts for watching a car auction on TV.  ;D

Just got back from the Chicago auto show and had a great time. I've got lots of pictures, I'll try to post later. I asked a Dodge big shot what numbers the three cars at the show were. He said they would not be sold and did not have a number, I guess they'll be destroyed after the show circuit. I've got to go to a Grandson's basketball game tomorrow. Hey Hobo, maybe you can answer this. I went to my dealer today and he told me that my status had been updated last Friday. It's still in BX status, so how was it updated? There had been no updates since December 10th. At that update, it went from BG to BX. I'm just curious what could be the update without a status change. Anybody else out there that understands Chryslerese?

Looks like some kinda Santa Claus code to me

BG means Be Good
BX means Be Excellent

Guess you best git on down to your local Dodge dealer and shine some shoes GTX

From my days of waiting on my 300C:

BB - review by fleet department
BD - special equipment processing
BE - edit error
BG - passed edit n/a for schedule
BGL - edit ok parts unavailable
BX - passed edit available for schedule
C - sub firm
D - firm schedule - dealer has allocation and all parts available
D - 1 gateline schedule - scheduled to be built
E - frame
F - paint
G - trim
I - built not ok'd
J - built ok'd
JB - shipped to body vendor
JE - emission check
JS - shipped to storage
KZ - released by plant , invoiced
KZL - released - not shipped
KZM - first rail departure
KZN - first rail arrival
KZO - delayed/recieved
KZOA - plant holds
KZOB - zone/distribution holds
KZOC - carrier delays
KZOD - carrier holds
KZOE - mis-shipped vehicle
KZOF - show/test vehicle
KZOG - damaged vehicle
KZOH - all other reasons
KZT - second rail departure
KZU - second rail arrival
KZX - delivered to dealer
ZA - canceled

As I recall, it's really not until it's in "D" that you have a firm idea of when it will ship.

70_GTX,

The Silver we have a deposit on is being built expected delivery May 2008.    There is a gas guzzler tax of 2100 on the car for the state of florida.

Pricing is 37320 (MSRP) +

Then 890. for Mygig, 950. for sunroof, 2100. gas guzzler and 675. destination.     totaling 41,935.

Allpro has some pretty good pictures, but this link is the most comprehensive I have found.

This is the way I understand it. When you enter an order, it goes into BX status, which is --- good order availible for scheduling. Your order went from BX to BG, which means --- order has passed edit but connot be considered for scheduling. So it looks to me that you kind of had a change in status or an update, basicly, it is saying that your order will not be built for 2008.5 (that sucks). Scooters order has moved from BX to C, which is  ---tentative schedule. I hope your dealer has kind of set you up for this because I don't want to be the bearer of bad news  :-\.
Let us know what happens.

Sandubar,

I think Chrysler is doing a fantastic thing for the Victory Junction Gang ~ $525,000 initial buy in is a great fund raiser for Kyle's charity based on Adam his late son.

My issue with that auction is that it is #43 and should be done with Richard Petty not Kyle for one, I also feel it should be titled first in Richards name only so that the history of the car is really done right.

I think it was Jackson Barrett that bought the #1 Challenger for something like 445,000 dollars.   The release count numbers have been bouncing around considerable.   This is the first time in print on something really public that they show 6400 to be built.    The rumor has it that Inferno most built, then Black then Gray and of course the lone B5 Petty color one.   The numbers are ranging from 5200 - 6400 depending on who you talk to.

Its going to be an interesting next 120 to 150 days as they begin to release these SRT8 Challengers.

For some reason, the SRT engineers chose this website to answer questions. The guys on the site can ask questions periodically and this time, they could ask questions about the new Challenger. The guys didn't ask a lot of the questions that I have but it's a great deal. Can you imagine how great it would be if the CVO engineers would visit here and answer questions and concerns we have about our bikes ?

Just saw a dealership sell a black one on E-bay for a buy it now price of $49,995.00. There were pictures of it on the lot and it had the dealership sticker on the back bumper. So, they must be finally hitting the dealerships. The black one that is supposed to come to our local dealership is still in the quality control stage. It has been in that stage since the 12th.

My 2008 SRT8 was officially rolled over to a 2009 today. The 2009 had a $1,600 price increase. As per my plan, I cancelled the order and ordered a loaded 2009 R/T. It will be Tor-Red. I know the performance will be quite different but that was the original plan before my dealer gave me a slim chance at an "08". Last week a dealership near here told me that they had heard that I was interested in one and that I could have their first "08" for $5,000 over sticker and I declined. I just can't see ever paying over sticker, that's just me. Ironically, the sticker for my stripper "08" SRT8 and loaded "09" R/T is only $2,745 less.

What's the code for the R/T package you are talking about? I didn't see any mention of handling packages. There were four engine packages for the R/T. Two were for the six speed and two were for the auto. We wanted an auto and the 28J code came with a lot of goodies with it and the 28F didn't show anything, so we went with the 28J. It's named the customer Preferred package but was under the engine selection. As far as the model, we went with LCDP22, I didn't know there was anything else in the R/T section.

Not sure on those codes let me see if I can find our build sheet and maybe that will help.   We had the choice of building / buying an RT or and RT with RT package.   You might ask your dealer as well.   They may also have changed some things.   If I my buid sheet I will let you know what codes we bought when we got our 06.

Orange one. Orange cones all around it, real obvious this was a special car nobody wanted anyone close to.

Sure does feel like the end of an era again.  Like 1972-73, at the tail end of the last "good ole days."

I picked up an 07 Jeep SRT8 last year. Kind of liking that decision this year, despite the 80 dollar fill-ups.

Our preference was Silver, then Black then Orange, but we never got to see the Orange in the daylight only on the showroom and they say it is much better looking out in the sun /shrug.

YUP

Silver was the best pick!

Must be why Harley chose Silver and Black for the premier 100th anniversary color.
I still think the silver Challenger looks best!
Good thing we all get a choice!

First year Challenger's are automatics, I would wait for a manual transmision.

Brian,

Had they used Hemi Orange and not Inferno Orange it may have been harder to make a choice on the silver, but when you have seen all 3 to us there was no choice it was silver hands down as the sharpest looking of the 3 colors.

Heard that the challengers for 09 will be almost 4 grand more for the exact same car next year.

Snake,

While I can see for nostalgia sake, a stick would have been great.  But if someone uses the race excuse, this is a heavy car not one you would take to the track except for the sheer fun of it to run it.  Besides that, I really didnt want a stick anyhow with that rod still in my leg, so it was an easy choice this time.    The tiptonic type shifting does all I need it to with the ESP turned off.

I was just messin' with ya's! ;D  Sweet car, Harry. :2vrolijk_21:  I finally saw a black one that the owner of the dealer here bought for himself.  They really pulled the looks off on this car!  I'd take one in any color, including silver (too match my Ram SRT-10 ;) !).

I think I read somewhere that the "09's" will be around $1600 more. Also, the six speed comes with 3.92 gears over the auto's 3.06.

OK, for you guys that have drag racing programs. Which 4000 lb. car will turn the fastest quarter mile ? A 375 horse , 3.92 gear or a 425 horse with 3.06 gear. All other things being equal. Of course, in the Challenger's case, everything isn't equal. The 375 horse R/T has a six speed manual and the 425 horse SRT is a five speed auto. I'm just curious.

Here's another question for you guys that have a new Challenger, why does the windows roll down slightly when you open the doors ?

2 reasons one is speculation though.

The window rolls down when you get out and back up when the door shuts for a tighter seal.   The cabin is quieter than any of the Chargers we have had even the 08 Super Bee.

The window was setup this way for a future release of a convertible although, Dodge denies this will happen.

There's a dealership in Garden City Michigan that says he has 13 units at $5,000 over. Hard to say how many he has left. Still too high for me. I'm settling for an "09" R/T.

And a year from now the same car will be hard pressed to sell at MSRP once MOPAR gets production cranked up and they pump out these like they have the other successful model lines they've introduced or re-introduces (ie: Chargers) . Face it, they're in business to sell cars, not create instant collector vehicles that can be bought as investments.
