Went in to see the dealer today. The only info he had was a type-written page. No pictures. The literature gave a price of $37,995. There were only about three options that could be added to the package. It comes standard with the 22X customer preferred package. The online ad says that pricing starts at $40,095. I don't know why the descrepancy. I asked the dealer if it will have the gas guzzler tax and he said that the literature doesn't show it. The dealership owner had already made his order. He ordered one with every option and in black. He wanted a six speed manual, but that is not available. It only comes as a five speed auto. The dealer said that he may cancel his order if that is a deal breaker. The wife said to order an orange one. So, we did. No options, other than the standard package. The literature says that they will be here in the spring, no definite time frame. The dealer also said that if it came in and we really didn't want it, he'd have no problem selling it. He also said that they have not heard a date for regular production ordering. He also said thet the larger dealers would probably get their orders first, so ours may arrive later. The owners car was ordered at 10:30 local time and ours was ordered at 1:30 local. There were 6,000 numbers difference in our VON numbers. I don't really know what that tells us. I doubt that there were 6,000 SRT8 Challengers sold in that space. Maybe 6,000 total Dodge orders ? Anyway, I'm excited.
Is that the same version that law enforcement is using?
I have the regular Hemi version Charger. The SRT version is a BLAST to drive - helluva lotta fun. Bet the Challenger will be as well. Post some pics when you get it. BTW - the 5 speed auto is ok & for me the manual was not an option since my better half can't drive a manual. Good luck!
What kind of fuel mileage do you get on that Charger? In town and on highway?

If you need to ask about that, you can't afford it anyway.
I saw the Challenger at the intro show last month in Las Vegas.
Any details I had have already been stated here.
It is a great looking car in person and I imagine the early ones will bring some profit to anyone that doesn't want to keep it.
Not sure if it has been stated above but the 6 speed manual will be offered in the SRT 8 in the 2009 Model Year.
I'm waiting until the initial fury is gone and to get the manual.
IMHO this along with the Mustang have the best execution of a modern rendition of a "pony" car. Somehow the Camaro didn't make it for me.
Like this one Roger?
PS this is what I want....540 HP
What kind of fuel mileage do you get on that Charger? In town and on highway?
Overall, about 21 mpg. Never less than 20 mpg since I bought it - per tank. Do not do much town driving, so figure its around 17-19 mpg town, 22-23 mpg hwy. Uses mid-grade - 89 octane gas.
Mine is the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 with 340 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque. Runs like a scalded dog. :huepfenjump3:
Who's all going to buy one of these Challengers. :nixweiss: I'm thinking group rate. :2vrolijk_21:
Brian I know your a Mopar Man, are you adding one to your collection. :nixweiss:

Geez, you average 21mpg? :shocked2: :shocked2: :shocked2: I have a 300C (HEMI) that the wife drives. She does a lot of in town driving with it and mileage is usally NEVER above 15mpg on the computer when I go to fill it up. I have had it out on the road a few times and it has seen 24.5, but usually, it runs around 21.5. I do run 87 in it, but doubtful that's the reason. Maybe the 10% ethanol gas? :nixweiss:
It does run like a beotch, though! :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3:
No, gonna pass, Dave. The Viper truck is enough 4-wheeled fun for me (for now). Besides, wouldn't it be a step down to go from 500HP and a 6-speed to 425HP and an automatic? :nixweiss: I think I know which keys I'd grab when I need to feel some torque on my backside! ;) ;D
I only liked it because it was Harley Orange (like D00d's Pumpkin :2vrolijk_21:)When this thread was first started I remembered how bright the colors were on the Challengers in the past. If only I had a money tree in the yard somewhere. That is nice. :2vrolijk_21:
I'd like to see a heads up between the two. ;D
I wonder if it has a 110 in it?
Just because I got a VON, doesn't mean that I will get a car.
If you need to ask about that, you can't afford it anyway.
I guess it isn't on the Dodge website, but it looks official. www.redletterdodge.com/. It's their blog site ?
Oh man, this is not good! :nervous: Or is it?!? :confused5: All of a sudden I'm wondering how I could pull this off. :nixweiss: :huepfenlol2:

OK, Has anybody truly read somewhere official that there will be only one per dealer ? I have heard of many stories of multiple sales at various dealerships. Since I ordered mine on December 3rd and was the second of two orders that day, I am somewhat concerned. I talked to my dealer yesterday and he had not heard or seen any such restriction. In fact, last week about Wednesday, the area sales rep called him to make sure that he had made his Challenger orders. When he told the rep that he had ordered two on Monday, the rep said "Great." If there were any restrictions in place, the dealer said that he thought the rep would have mentioned it. As I said, I am not too concerned but it does gnaw at my stomach a little. I fully realize our small dealership will probably be the last to get theirs and the major markets will see them first. But, with all the connections on this sight, I thought somebody might be able to clear this up.
Well, I hope you're right about the first come first served. Since I am one of the first day orders. I noticed seventeen of these cars on E-bay this evening, with the most expensive being $20,000 over sticker. Most are saying a production of 4,500 but that is what you would say if you were trying to sell the exclusivity point. One high volume dealer in northen Indiana says that he has three coming in, two orange and one black. All fully loaded. Another small dealer north of me in Paris, Illinois ordered a black one for dealer stock. The wife is all fired up about going up to the Chicago auto show in February, just to get an early look at one. I've never been, so it could be a fun thing to do.

My cars status hasn't changed yet. My dealer had me call Chrysler customer service to see if I could get someone to tell me if my car had a chance of being built or not. So, I gave them a call and I had to tell the guy the Challenger family code before he could even find my order. He was nice and friendly but was not much help. He said that I was ahead of a lot of others but he could not say if my car would be built or not. The dealer wanted to know, so he could ask another local dealer for his dealerstock ordered car. That was last week and since my status has not changed, he wants me to call them again next week. He says to try and get past the first guy I talk to. He says he has had people from all over calling and trying to get a Challenger from him. People from upstate and from as far away as Oklahoma.
I odered tickets this morning for the Chicago Auto Show. We plan on going on the 8th of February. We are going to take AMTRAK from the closest location and ride it to Chicago. We were advised to take a cab from the AMTRAK station to McCormick Center. They told us that the state funding for the mass transit system is in shambles and that the system is unreliable and the price was expected to triple after the first of the year. So, that's the plan for now.
Yesterday, I was out with a friend of mine who is into Mustangs. We stopped at a dealership near here to look at a Mustang GT 500. It was a sharp car. Red exterior with white stripes. The interior was black/red. Manual transmission. It had an inflated price of $49,999 but the owner of the dealership told us that they would accept the sticker MSRP of around $45,000. My friend declined but I was curious about the gas guzzler tax. The Mustang's guzzler tax was only $1300 compared to the Challenger's $2100. I thought that their mileage ratings were similar but I found out that small differences make quite a difference in the tax. Notice the following Government table. My GTX's tax would be $7700. I think the Mustang's mileage figures are identical to an SRT-8 Charger's. So, I am still a little puzzled how they figured it.
at least 22.5 No tax
at least 21.5, but less than 22.5 $1000
at least 20.5, but less than 21.5 $1300
at least 19.5, but less than 20.5 $1700
at least 18.5, but less than 19.5 $2100
at least 17.5, but less than 18.5 $2600
at least 16.5, but less than 17.5 $3000
at least 15.5, but less than 16.5 $3700
at least 14.5, but less than 15.5 $4500
at least 13.5, but less than 14.5 $5400
at least 12.5, but less than 13.5 $6400
less than 12.5 $7700
I was just reviewing my "Dealer Order Status" report. I have 4 challengers ordered. The first one was ordered 12/4/07 and is a "sold order" with Scooterhairs name on it, it is in "C" status. The other 3 were entered as sold units (that aren't really sold) with dealership employees names on them, they are in "BX" status.
BX is the first place an order goes. It means--- good order availible for scheduling. C status is the next section in the scheduling process, which means --- tenative schedule. What we will be looking for next is D status --- which is firm schedule: serial number assigned, then D1 --- gateline: plant has sequenced the unit for production, estimated ship date asssigned. From there we go into build status, E for framing, F for paint, and G for trim. After that we are looking for KZ status ---released by plant and invoiced, from there it shouldn't be more than about two weeks in shipping before it arrives here at the dealership. I'm only 99% sure that I am going to get this first car, I say 99% because I've been with Chrysler (in 2 dealerships) for 22 years and have seen them do some s&*tty stuff to some small dealers. I would say that I will not get the other 3 cars on this first 2008.5 model run.
Scooter is getting real anxious for his car. He asks me every day, "when is my car going to be here". I always tell him the same thing----"I think they shipped yesterday, should be here tomorrow or the next day".
One thing that I have seen in the past is, just because you have "BX" on your order, doesn't necessarily mean you are going to get the car, it just means they (Chrysler) has recieved the order. You are only going to get what you are allocated. It is my opinion that dealers are not going to get more than one each of this first run of cars.
Hobo
What is the status on the car?
OMG,
# 1 sold for 400k.
I think mine just appreciated a little tonight.

If you can't watch it live, an on-demand replay will be availible for 30 days at the same link starting about 90 minutes after the event ends.
It should be a good show.
Hobo
Very impressive presentation. If they're not FOS, Cary when can you get me one (in Briiliant Black Crystal Pearl please)?! ::) ;D
Hoist! 8)
From what I understand, all of the 08's that will be built are spoken for, unless you want to pay 10 - 15k over sticker. Realisticly, I'd say anyone else who wants one will have to wait on an 09, unless you have a bunch of extra money you want to spend.
Hobo
I can wait. May be a bit impatient, but I'll wait :(
I can not wait, I already did some customizing. :o

I put my order in yesterday for the new Challenger. Base sticker of $37,230 plus $675 destination is $37,995. There is $2,100 gas guzzler tax and only three options availible. A tire upgrade for $50, $950 for sunroof and $890 for the MyGIG system w/ Nav. Total $41,895 MSRP. I've only got $2,558 between invoice and MSRP, the factory won't let us make any money, boss says that we'll hold out for sticker on this one. I don't have a deposit on the car yet, so if anybody wants one let me know. Factory says we are only going to get one of this first run of SRT-8's. This one is ordered in black, but that could be changed (if it's done soon enough) if someone the silver or orange. I wanted to order the orange, but my boss doesn't like the loud colors like I do. I'm guessing that it will be April or May before the car arrives.
I heard that the first two cars off of the line will be auctioned at Barrett-Jackson in January. I always enjoy watching that, My girlfriend thinks I'm nuts for watching a car auction on TV. ;D
Hobo
I saw this at car show, 425 hp 420 ft lbs tq
did not see engine compartment or interior, maybe this was still a concept car, but it looked real good!
Hey HOBO,
What is the statis on the car?
Hey Hobo, maybe you can answer this. I went to my dealer today and he told me that my status had been updated last Friday. It's still in BX status, so how was it updated? There had been no updates since December 10th. At that update, it went from BG to BX. I'm just curious what could be the update without a status change. Anybody else out there that understands Chryslerese?

Sandubar,
I think Chrysler is doing a fantastic thing for the Victory Junction Gang ~ $525,000 initial buy in is a great fund raiser for Kyle's charity based on Adam his late son.
My issue with that auction is that it is #43 and should be done with Richard Petty not Kyle for one, I also feel it should be titled first in Richards name only so that the history of the car is really done right.
I think it was Jackson Barrett that bought the #1 Challenger for something like 445,000 dollars. The release count numbers have been bouncing around considerable. This is the first time in print on something really public that they show 6400 to be built. The rumor has it that Inferno most built, then Black then Gray and of course the lone B5 Petty color one. The numbers are ranging from 5200 - 6400 depending on who you talk to.
Its going to be an interesting next 120 to 150 days as they begin to release these SRT8 Challengers.
For some reason, the SRT engineers chose this website to answer questions. The guys on the site can ask questions periodically and this time, they could ask questions about the new Challenger. The guys didn't ask a lot of the questions that I have but it's a great deal. Can you imagine how great it would be if the CVO engineers would visit here and answer questions and concerns we have about our bikes ?

The local Dodge dealership owner's car went to "D" status today. His is black, mine has not moved and probably won't. They're getting real close to being built now.
2009 Buyers Guide.
My dealer called today and said that he had some new 2009 Challenger literature for me. I picked it up and it can be seen at the following website. I found the B5 Blue R/T Classic interesting. I liked its 20 inch Heritage wheels. They look like Cragars with a Ram logo in the center. The car will be offered late in the year. Also, the T/A hood is a real throwback.

70_GTX,
Sorry to hear about the bad luck. Yesterday we received a call that our Challenger was finished being built and was in delivery status. It went from F status to delivery in under a week :) We are told that it will arrive somewhere between Monday next week and the 10th of July.
If you happen to get the RT, make sure it is the RT with the RT package in it. The handling is that much better :)
.
.
Thanks Chip and Mrs We. Michelle and I agree with you on this one Chip, we think the Silver is the best of the 3 choices this year.
Black is the 3rd color
Our preference was Silver, then Black then Orange, but we never got to see the Orange in the daylight only on the showroom and they say it is much better looking out in the sun /shrug.
Whaddahell, guys? :confused5: Orange is to the HEMI what orange is to Harley. :nixweiss: :shocked2: :zwtf:
Here's another question for you guys that have a new Challenger, why does the windows roll down slightly when you open the doors ?
2 reasons one is speculation though.
The window rolls down when you get out and back up when the door shuts for a tighter seal. The cabin is quieter than any of the Chargers we have had even the 08 Super Bee.
The window was setup this way for a future release of a convertible although, Dodge denies this will happen.
My 2008 Corvette has this same feature...
Heard that the challengers for 09 will be almost 4 grand more for the exact same car next year.
Well Silver and Black looks much better than orange! (IMHO)
Looks good Harry!

55k is 14k over sticker on that car.yes i know.... i have been offered two of them for "only 65k"
I don't know how hard they are to get but Whiteside's Chrysler Jeep in Mt Sterling, Ohio (20 miles south of Columbus) has an orange one in stock. Gus Whiteside 1-800-686-2818.. They are a small town dealer.
55k is 14k over sticker on that car.
nonetheless.... i had the chance to play with one... verrrryyyy cool
not a penny over MSRP cool..but cool nonetheless...maybe after the feeding frenzy dies down i'll buy one
They also have a red one.
I had an unexpected opportunity to play with a black one for sale in Raton, NM yesterday....
they "only" wanted 55k for it.... less than many i have seen .... damn nice car!
Jerry,
If it is an 08 and red its not from the Dodge factory that way.
