My New "Toy" - 2012 FLHXSE3
« on: September 05, 2011, 01:29:58 PM »

I went out and took some pics this morning.  It's a cloudy day here, so the Citrus doesn't pop quite like it does in full sun light.  I don't know when I'll get a chance to take more, but when I get a nice sunny day, I'll do more.  I'll be running this one in the "solo" mode, so all pics show that configuration.  The seat, although thin looking, is surprisingly comfortable.  Just wish there was a way to put a back rest on it, but I'll get used to it.  For long distant riding I always have the SERGU.  Right now, the SESG is all stock with the exception of a few add ons.  More parts are on order, Fulsac X pipe, Bassani 4" slippons, SESPT, dash pad, handlebar navigation mount...otherwise, she's going to stay pretty much looking the way she looks now.

Nice  :2vrolijk_21:

I've been thinking (dangerous) since you can put the rider backrest on the bike with a differant seat. Would it be a big deal to have the stock 2012 seat modified with a small notch in the back to allow the backrest mount to sit in? seems like a good shop could do it and make it look like factory.

I was looking to see if something like that could be done, but there's no room to put the bracket for the backrest under the solo seat as it hugs the frame.  Also, the seat mounts where you would attach the bracket to the fender.  The pillion pad overlaps the solo seat, so you wouldn't be able to make a slit in the seat.  Interesting that they did it this way, but I'll bet they come up with a backrest for this.

Thanks Gary.  This is, IMO, the sweetest looking SE that the MoCo has come out with.  Everything flows and matches.  The wife even says this is the nicest looking SE I've gotten....I just wish the weather would have been better to get some pics in the sun...

Thanks.  :)  That's what I was thinking for a mount too...I know it could be done...perhaps the MoCo is thinking the same thing.

Nice bike and nice pics too. I can't wait until mine gets here. It was supposed to ship to the dealer on the 10th of August, but still no word.

Looks great.
With the right exhaust and tune these things don't need much more.

Thanks Chip...I agree.  After much consternation and talking with the performance guy at my dealer, I decided to go with the combination I stated earlier.  I was thinking of going with the TTS, but my tech at the dealership is much more comfortable with the SESPT, and he did a really good tune on both my old SESG and the SERGU.

Thanks.  I got lucky with my dealer, the first SESG3 they got in was the black one and it lasted all of about 30 mins when they put it out on the floor.  I told them I was interested in the Citrus/Gunstock and wanted to know when they were getting one in (they are slated to get 15 CVOs this year, the most of any dealership in the Mid-Atlantic).  He said that they were supposed to have gotten one already, but it hadn't shipped yet.  I told him I'd take it when it came in; this was about three weeks ago.  I got a call last week that it was in, so I picked it up last Saturday.  No regrets whatsoever with the color choice.  It is so sweet looking.   ;)

Hey CONGRATS, Man! You did just what I did... couldn't wait to take a whole bunch of pics of the new scoot. I LOVE my Hot Citrus FLHXSE3! It just GLOWS in the sunshine!

Raining here today... so I'm taking the opportunity to do some wrenching.. putting some parts on and fixing the iPod. FYI, there's an 8-pin connector on the left side (looking forward) inside the fairing that came completely undone on my bike after 4 days. Took off the outer fairing today to install a hidden antenna, and found it. Now I have my iPod back. If your iPod ever stops working, that's a likely culprit.

Anyway... ENJOY YOUR NEW BIKE!

BTW... I have a pictures thread here:  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=66236.0

Thanks Mike.  The MoCo finally came out with a color combo that I just had to have.  I loved my Spiced Rum, but this color combo blows it away.

Oh Yeah! My wife is alarmed amused at my love affair with this thing - which I've had for a total of 10 days now. I've already spent a BOATLOAD on extras for it - Fullsac Stage 1 and 2, color-matched Tour-Pak with the CVO graphics and a matching spoiler for trips, detachable mount, lock, liner, smoked side lights, passenger boards with Rumble inserts to match the rider boards, highway peg mounts, and another seat with some decent padding and SUPPORT that I can use a backrest with.

This affair is busting me! I have to keep reminding my wife that's still cheaper than playing golf would be... and I SUCK at that game anyway...

I'm not going to do a lot to this one.  Just a few minor appearance things and new headers and mufflers.  I really like the way it looks as is.  The wife would kill me if I got a tour pak for the SESG.  Fortunately, I don't have to worry about that because I have the SERGU when we go two-up riding.  That's why I'll probably move the rear pegs forward to the crash bar, because the SESG will strictly be my "solo" ride.

Harley did such an awesome job on that bike  :2vrolijk_21:  They really went all out with the paint, equipment, etc.  Just outstanding!

Enjoy it in good health.

That's one good looking machine you have there, each time I look at the Hot Citrus and Ruby Red the Citrus keeps standing out.
More Custom and a unique color combo.

Thanks guys.  I definitely agree.  I think the MoCo hit a home run with this years SESG; especially the Hot Citrus.  The red one looks really nice, but, IMO, doesn't stand out, and the black is, well, black!  I think all three will sell with no problem.  There are going fast here, with a lot of them spoken for before they even come in.

Must be nice to have two SEs! Yeah, the Tour Pak will only be on the bike for road trips - so the SG can do double duty then. I can't stand having to strap a bunch of crap on the bike when I'm on the road... ruins the looks of it, and it's much easier to have a carry-out bag in the TP for all the chit.

RE: Exhaust... I like the Fullsac X-Pipe because it uses the stock heat shields, so everything looks like it came from the factory. The baffles go in the stock cans, too. I have V&H True Duals on the old FLHTP... but on this bike it's important to have the crossover. I would never put true dual headers on this engine.

Home Run indeed! I like all of the CVOs this year - the CVO RG Skunk Bike is beautiful and the Ruby Red SG is gorgeous - but the Hot Citrus SG is just amazing, and the kick-ass 8-speaker audio setup is just more icing on an already delicious cake!

I was at the dealer where I bought it again this weekend, and they told me that my timing in buying this bike - the very day they got it -  was perfect. The owner took it for the test ride himself, and then took a bunch of pics of it, which he normally doesn't do, to send to people. They had traded a CVO RG in the Maple Metallic to another dealer for this bike because it had sat on their floor for 3 weeks, and the other dealer had a buyer for it. I had originally wanted the Maple RG, which is why I had called them in the first place... but when I saw this bike on the website, I bought it before I even went to the dealership. They have another Hot Citrus SG on order for another customer, with a late Oct delivery date...

I had the true duals on my 07 SEUC.  Loved the idle sound that true duals give, but stuck with the 2 into 1 into 2, for the rest of my 110 bikes.  I'm not so much into number chasing as far as HP goes, but I noticed that my "seat of the pants" dyno felt more "pull" with the 2-1-2 headers than the true duals.  Just felt better, and that's all that matters. :)

I have to agree with you...the SERGCs are winners also.  I saw the "Skunk" at my dealership, and even though it didn't do anything for me, it was a beautiful bike.  I like the root beer version of the SERGC, I think that's a huge winner for a color.  Now if they had put all of the SESG things, i.e., the stereo system, on the SERGC, I might have gone that route, but to be honest, none of the SERGC colors does to me what the Hot Citrus/Antique Gunstock does...definitely no regrets getting this beauty...!!!!

Yeah - I'm glad I got this one! Being an old fart now... this is my last chance to feel young and outrageous before I fade into Geezer-Glide land forever! My back is already there... screaming for an Ultra seat with a backrest! I'm giving it a standard SG seat and backrest... but that's as far as I will go right now... it will just have to make do!
The CVO RGCs are very nice - I have always loved the Shark Nose frame-mounted fairing. I like the SE forward facing A/C on the RGCs a LOT (won't fit on our SGs though, because of the lower speakers ) - but they are not outfitted quite as lavishly as the SGs are. The Maple Metallic on the RGC must look gorgeous in the sun - haven't seen on in the flesh yet... only pics. They really should have put the SG audio system on the RGCs as well... but they are $2000 less expensive than the SGs. The RGCs have the big 6" x 9" speakers in the fairing and 200 watts - but they can't surround you like the SG audio system does.

I guess the MoCo has their reasons - mysterious as they are... probably a "market segmentation" thing dreamed up by the brainiacs with Ivy League Marketing degrees in Milwaukee...  :book2:

I'd probably keep 'em all too, but I feel two is enough for me, considering my wife doesn't ride her own, so I have the hot rod for my running around and the Cadillac for when the wife and I want to go riding around.

Instead of a stock Street Glide seat with backrest, you might consider a Corbin? I love my custom Corbin for the comfort, and looks. Dress up your beautiful bike with a seat that is above standard (not stock)... Just a suggestion.

Congrats, awesome new bike. Enjoy, and ride the hell out of it!

I'm giving it a standard SG seat and backrest...

NGH, you might want to also consider the 2011 CVO SG seat and backrest.  I have heard good things about them from others on here as far as comfort goes.  And IMO, it looks a little nicer and more custom than a standard one does.  ;D

I hear ya, my wife says the same thing...it's what keeps me going... :huepfenlol2:  Anyway, have you come up with a solution for putting the NIM module on the SESG?  The P&A catalog says it's not compatible with the SESG2/3 and I'm sure that's because of the wiring harness issue.  I'd really prefer to do the NIM than have the audio wire plugging into the Aux port, but will go that route so I can have my RT 660 on the SESG.

Thanks,

Congrats Charlie.  You have chosen wisely my friend.   :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks GR, like the Krypto for '11, I think we got the best colors for the year...no slight to anyone else's colors, JMO.

Thanks,

Yep ... I have the NIM and iPod working just fine on my SESG2. I can also add Xm and CB if I want to (but would need to move the iPod module to the back ala 2012). Don't remember if the aux connection is required for Nav voice interrupts (I have a 665 and went the way of Tony to do aux on rear). Could be that aux input is only required for SD card tunes and/or XM from the 665 (probably the way it is).

Getting the NIM installed w/iPod is not that hard - I can walk you through it easy-peasy. When you get close PM me your number and we can discuss in detail. There are several ways to the skin the proverbial cat, we'll go over them and you can decide which one is the best fit for ya.

Great thanks!  I had the 660 running through my Aux on the '10 SESG, which wasn't a problem, because then I just played the tunes off the memory card.  I'd just like to avoid having the audio cord come out and connect to the AUX port as that would stick out against the Orange inner fairing.  It wasn't as noticeable with the black inner fairing on the '10.  You didn't do up a wiring diagram or anything did you?

I was told to hear music from your ZUMO through the bikes radio system the cable to the aux port had to be there.

That's a true statement Chip.  I cannot hear music from the 660 on my FLTRUSE, just the voice commands, but with the iPod on it, it's not necessary.  But if you do go through the Aux port, you'll not only get the voice prompts, but the music off the memory card, but unfortunately, you have to be in AUX position to do that.

Bike looks GREAT!!!
Have been giving some thought to trading my FLHTCUSE6 for one of these.
My dealer just sold there red one and will have the citrus in next month.

P.S The wife and I where in Fredericksburg this past weekend and think I saw you cruising Carolina Sreet.
My wife and I stayed at a nice little B&B called the Carolina House, and just loved it.

Let me know if you went through town Sat. about 4 pm, if so it must have been you.
Not sure as I could not take my eyes off the bike!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Big Dave,
Yep, that was me rolling through downtown Fredericksburg around 4pm.  Did a "show off" run through town.  If you notice I had the tunes turned up pretty good too.  Wanted everyone to appreciate the rolling ghetto blaster.  Hope everyone like good old classic rock and roll. :)  The Caroline House is a very popular place to stay.  I love downtown Fredericksburg, still has that old small town atmosphere, we even still have the old Rexall Drug store with the soda fountain in it where you can get a "real" old-fashioned cherry coca-cola.

Just so you know.
I heard you way before I saw you!
It sounded awesome going buy, and I do love rock and roll.
I wanted to get to the Drug store but ran out of time.
I love history, so between me going to all the civil war sites and my wife shopping!!!  HA
We will be going back again soon as we just loved the area.

It'll sound better when I get those restrictive mufflers taken care off and get rid of the CAT.  The next time you come down to F'Burg, ride your bike and I'll take ya on a battlefield bike tour....all of the battlefields have great roads to ride and we have a bunch of battlefields around.  :)

Take care, and talk to ya later.

P.S I am surprised to hear that you had no exhaust work yet, from what I could hear over the tunes, it sounded pretty good.

Nope that was the stock exhaust, CAT and all.  I think it sounds anemic, but that's just me.  I like a throatier sound.  Yep, the invite is open, just let me know, we'll get ya out to see the sights. :)

Thanks Terry.  The pictures show the color pretty good, but in person, this is the first color I've seen that just hit me hard.  I had to have it!!  That Hot Citrus really pops in the sun!!.  I have a few parts on order.  Not going to do much to it, as I love it the way it is.

Congratulations on your new sweet ride.

I owned a 2009 Street Glide that I had Alligator Bob make me a custom seat for that had an awesome driver back rest.  I put it on my mc and was headed out on a 7 day trip when 400 miles into the trip I was in stopped traffic on the interstate when I heard the "crunch".  This a-hole came flying down the highway at 65 mph and never noticed that all 3 lanes of traffic was at a stand still, so to make a long story short, he hit me dead center from the rear at 65 mph.  I flew 15 feet in the air landing face down on the pavement and my mc slid down the road wiping out my riding partner on her mc.  Both our bikes were totaled. My custom seat survived with just a small abrasion that I found a leather shop to fix.  My seat now sit's on my new 2012 FLHXSE.  It looks awesome and draws many comments.  My back was fractured in 4 places (June 18) and I am just now working up to taking small trips around the block.  So if you can't find a seat with a backrest that you like you can always send a stock seat with backrest to Alligator Bob and have him customize it for you.  His work is outstanding!

I don't know how I ever missed this one......and missed it over and over apparently, we're on page 6 here. :nixweiss:

Very nice bike.....probably my favorite for this year (haven't saw the red SESG in person yet).  Congratulations on the new ride! :2vrolijk_21:

Instead of a stock Street Glide seat with backrest, you might consider a Corbin? I love my custom Corbin for the comfort, and looks. Dress up your beautiful bike with a seat that is above standard (not stock)... Just a suggestion.

Congrats, awesome new bike. Enjoy, and ride the hell out of it!

I took your advice about Corbin... bought the one that was in Buying with the orange flame stitching. Pic in my "BETTER Pictures..." thread here: http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=66236.msg932895#msg932895

I found out it pays to read the owner's manual sometimes.  I didn't like the look of the big decorative knob screwed into the rear fender with the pillion pad removed.  It just looked out of place and literally stuck out like a sore thumb.  So I replaced it with the stock chrome phillips-head screw, and that looked a little better, but still didn't like it.  I kept thinking I wish there was a "button" or something that I could just stick into the fender hole that would be pretty flush, but couldn't figure out what to use.  Anyway, to make a long story short, I was reading the operator's manual, and got to the part about removing the pillion pad for solo riding, and catch this one little sentence that says there's a decorative plug to put into the hole on the underneath of the pad.  I looked underneath and sure enough, there's a nice little chrome plug.  I pulled it out and noted it was threaded and it screws right into the pillion mount hole in the read fender and now give an almost flush appearance with a little chrome button.   Glad I read the operator's manual.  So if all of you SESG and SERGC rider's were wishing for something less obvious to put in the hole, just look under your pillion.

I know that feeling took me two weeks of looking at the back of the solo seal to realize that there was a flap the covered up the mounted points for the passenger pillion... Was wondering why Harley would leave the seat so unfinished back there. DUH! I probably should have read the owners manual first lol

I was absolutely amazed that they paid that much attention to detail to include that little plug, let alone give it a place to put it on the underside of the pillion pad when you're not using it.

LOL...me too. I rarely, if ever read the manual.  Don't know why I decided to this time, but glad that I did.  I wonder how many other little "hidden gems" the MoCo puts in the manual, just so we'll read it?  :nixweiss:  :nervous:
