2007 SERK Electrical Gremlin?
« on: September 08, 2008, 06:51:08 PM »

Has anybody encountered this problem? :(

My green neutral light does not go out irrespective of the gear I am in. The strange thing is that the 'fault' only occurs when the engine gets really hot - say for example when in really heavy slow traffic. However it is then difficult to know exactly when you are in neutral for parking etc!!

Any help would be appreciated ;)

Have a 2007 SERK that does the exact same thing. Was told it was a faulty sensor. Seems logical. Keep forgetting to mention it the last time I had it in for service.

Mine was doing similar things for awhile when the bike was hot. The dealer replaced the tranny sensor and it's been OK ever since.  :)

Idiot lights and the neutral light as I remember are all "ground to turn on" circuits.  If the lead wire to a sensor, oil pressure switch, neutral switch, gets to ground it will turn on the light.  If there is a short in the sensor it may partially ground causing a flickering or just short out entirely and keep the light on all the time.

The quickest way to check it out is to just unplug said sensor wire and see if the light in question goes out.

My '08 electrical book and wiring schematic is at home, but as I said, most are ground to turn on.  This way if a wire grounds out to the frame or gets burnt through on the exhaust, the worst it will do is turn on a light... but not short out and blow a fuse.  Dome lights in cars have been this way for eons, very safe wiring scheme.

Good luck.
