Passenger Footboards
« on: August 05, 2009, 07:20:49 PM »

During my vacation I was have some difficulty manually moving my 2009 SEUC (adjusting position in a parking spot etc.) Partially because I am not very tall( 5'9") but mostly because the back of my legs kept hitting on the passenger foot boards.(way closer together than on my Heritage) My wife said she  liked the way they were adjusted except for the fact that she was only using the back half of the footboard and her heels were not being supported.  To cure both problems and only remove and reinstall two bolts I switched the footboards from one side to the other. This gave me three benefits. It is much easier for me to self maneuver the bike, her foot is now fully supported ( her legs are not hitting the crash bars) , and I can get to the clutch cover screws much easier when changing primary fluid. Just a thought I would like to pass along. CAHDBIKER

I had the same thought when I sat on my 2010 SEUC at the dealership for the first time yesterday (to be delivered tomorrow BTW)  :bananarock:

Now let me see if my small brain can get around this one: with your idea ... the 'Front' of the right board becomes the 'Back' of the left board and vice-versa when swapped?

Yes, but they look good and flow with the lines of the bike either way. It helped me out a lot since I knew I could not adjust them enough and it was only two bolts and a little blue loctiteand I was done.  The service manual sayes 36-42 ft lbs. I set my wrench to 40 and left it at that. They were not that tight when I took them apart. Good luck with your new bike. CAHDBIKER

I switched the passenger pegs (one side to the other) about a month ago............HUGE DIFFERENCE for me when riding, walking and even stopping at lights/stop signs. My passenger (Mrs Harley) feels better with her foot placement on the board.  A WIN WIN solution that did not cost the normal HD cost - ie: Hundred Dollars!

Nope.......
So this problem only exists when they are down?

I ask this because the originally posters complaint was moving the bike around when parking. Seems to me it would be just as easy to put the floorboards up when this is needed. :nixweiss:

I had often encountered this problem, with them down and passenger aboard before. When in the up position, with no passenger, my leg still contacted the passenger floorboard at times, plus, on my 08, we have a nice scripted derby cover which has been hidden with the original adjustment. Did mine last nite.
Love it. Lots better, about 3 inches more room, and that lovely scripted derby cover,(that they discontinued) is sweet. Thanks Guys!! Another worthwhile tip from
the guys in the know at CVO Harley!!

To clarify my earlier simple response - hope this helps!

The original set up - they were always in the way! Both up and down

The changed set up - nope, they are never in the way
