Evil tick is GONE!!!!
« on: May 07, 2015, 02:50:58 PM »

OK, I cannot find the post or recall the person who told me to try it, but I am SO glad I did!!   I recently changed my oil (5days ago or so) to Harley Syn3 and what a mess that made.  The engine got very, very noisy in all temperature ranges.  What a huge waste of money!  The oil I had removed was Amsoil 20w50 and even though it still ticked and chattered some, it was not even remotely close to the noise I was getting with Syn3.  Anyway, I digress.  Someone (I cannot recall who or what thread) told me to try Liqui-Moly Racetech 10w60.  So I researched it and it seemed to make sense.  I found that you can get it locally at most any NAPA store for somewhere around $8.99-$11.99.  I ran out and bought 4L's and changed the oil yet again (and the 5 or so day old filter).  What a HUGE, HUGE difference!  I rode it for hours yesterday.  Stop and go, highway riding, daytime, and night time.  And I am telling you, this engine has never sounded better!!  Also, in the mornings when I would fire it up, normally it would chatter a bit for a few minutes or so.  Well, not this morning!  Not a sound!  I wont claim it to be the "fix all" but it surely worked on mine.  Give it a try and be your own judge!
Thanks to whomever told me to try it!

Let us know if the "tick" is still gone when you get a couple thousand miles on the oil.

Over on HTT (Harley Tech Talk) there are 24 pages of posts in regard to the Liqui-Moley 10W 60, seems like a lot of happy users.

I run this oil. It didn't quiet down my motor too much but it's holding up nicely and it can be had for less than $80 on Ebay for 10litres. I will continue to run it. It is well discussed and used over on HTT.

Not a miracle oil but a nice option.

Red Line offers 20W60 as well as straight grade 50W, and 60W full sythentic.
We used to run 0W20 in our AHDRA racer.

I'm also running the Liqui-Moly. So far so good the bike seems to be bit
quieter. Only about 400 mile on change will see how it holds up.

I'm happy for you that your nuisance engine tic tic ticking is gone but I'm always just a little weary about the claims about this oil over that oil making these noises go away.  I would be more inclined to believe it has more to do with varying the viscosity grade than anything else, when it comes to most quality synthetic brands.  Never the less, I'm happy that you are happy with it.

varying the viscosity grade

Yes and the better of the synthetics can accomplish this by virtue of good quality stable base stock, lower quantities of polymers to stabilize the viscosity, and as a result a higher VI number. Specifications are published for most popular oils, except for HD oils. Check them out. They are worth reading and not listening to myths. The EOS results also speak volumes
