What would happen if you took it out and rode it and downshifted to first gear at say 70mph?

I was thinking the same thing! Lol.. Bring it in with the rod hanging out of it. See how they handle that.

Not much info yet!
I was away at the SEMA show in Vegas all week so I was not in touch with the dealer.
I will likely touch base with them tomorrow and post an update.
As a side note I stopped at the Magna Flow booth and looked at some new mufflers for Harleys. Looked pretty good.
Another guy was developing a front and rear camera system for the touring bikes.

Update:
Well the NY dealer called and said the bike was finished so I drove 2 hours to pick it up.
They said they had checked a number of things including the compensator and said it was way out of spec and replaced it.
They were sure they had the vibration and the engine noise fixed.
The disappointing thing is it didn't fix the vibration or the engine noise. It made it better!, but it still vibrates.
When I got back from driving the bike for 2 hrs at 3000 RPM I could barely feel my fingers and it took 30 minutes to get the feeling back.
The dealer tried their best to find the vibration but it is still not acceptable for long distant rides. But they did cover everything under warranty.
Sooo.... I guess I will pull the motor myself this winter and send the crank out to be trued, balanced and welded.
So far I have spent 90% of the mileage on my bike travelling to the dealers and back. They have worn me down!

Replace the crank with a S&S , based on your post  that you want to fix the crank.

Wow, i don't know how you can put up with all the crap. Think i would have returned the bike after the test ride and told them to fix it or trade it on another one.

We had a softail in here that was like that.. Dealer refused to swap the engine. Had been back to shop many times.. I rode it and it would buzz your feet all over the foot pegs, make your hands hurt etc .  Customer got about two blocks from the harley shop and just revved it until it gave up.. Walked to dealer and explained he was bringing it back for service and it stopped :nixweiss: :nixweiss: gave them a dumb look like WOW what happened.. I would not have been able to keep a straight face.. Hey its under warranty.. let me know what is wrong  I am going to get a ride...  :D  .. They installed new engine and problem solved.

Thanks for the words of encouragement.
The only thing it can be at this point is a the rotating assembly. The crank out of balance or out of true.
Should I have the original crank trued and balanced or replace it with an S&S.
Does the S&S crank come balanced?
Thoughts!

Speaking as a shop we use the S&S .. Yes balanced and extremely smooth.

Another thought. If I go with an S&S crank should I switch the cams to gear drive when I'm at it?
Any recommendations  as to which cams I should go with. I ride 2 up 95% of the time usually loaded on trips.
Any idea what I am looking at cost wise for the S&S crank? :worthless:
