2015 110 engine vibration
« on: September 01, 2015, 09:22:46 AM »

Hi Guys, New to the site from the great white north Ingleside Ontario Canada.
Just picked up my new 2015 RGU CVO. Traded in a 2014 Ultra Limited . So far so good but with one issue. Not sure if anyone has experienced it or not. It has an engine vibration that gets worse with increased RPM. At 3000 it will vibrate the handle bars, seat and my teeth. Harley dealer says all 110's do that. I cant believe a 40,000 dollar bike would vibrate like that and people would accept that.
My 2014 Limited was smooth as silk at any RPM. Thoughts?

Welcome to the world of SE from NC, I have some vibration on my '13 SERK but nothing like you describe. Post your question in the Engine section for a better chance at a answer.

First, welcome to the site and we're glad you've joined us.
Second, I have the same bike you do, and it's as smooth as any Harley I've owned, possibly smoother.

Was it like that when you test drove it?  I'd get the dealer to drive it, sit on it, whatever it takes, and I'd keep pestering them until you get satisfaction.  I'd look at every nut and bolt on the engine all the way up to the handlebars for loose/missing fasteners.  It sounds like something's loose to me.  And you're right, the vibration you're describing is not common to our bikes, from what little I know.

You're not new to Harleys, so you know a Harley does some amount of vibrating, but not to the extent you're describing.  If you're not comfortable or satisfied, make a case for it.

In the meantime, someone else will weigh in on this thread that may have more information and knowlege than I do.
Good luck and I hope you get it satisfied to your liking!

No, the 110's do NOT all do that.  It's the same drive train as your 2014.   I have the same bike which could not be smoother.  From your description, the first thing that comes to mind is motor mounts.

Not normal. Should be smooth like butter. Is this dealer in the GTA?

I had an similar issue with a 2014 Road King. I would look closely at the exhaust system in general. Specifically the area near the right floorboard/brake, mentioned before, and the cross under area. The cross under is where my problem was, had the whole system in a bind transferring motor motion into the entire rest of the bike.

Ya, no good. If you haven't yet... bring it back to the dealer and have someone in service take it for a ride. If it's that noticeable and they still tell you that bring it to another dealer.

Suggestion #1:  Find an honest dealership with competent service personnel.  The one you talked to is FOS.

Suggestion #2:  As several have already mentioned, the most likely cause is a bound up or grounded exhaust system transferring vibration to the rest of the bike.  If you still have a stock exhaust, any dealership should be able to handle it under factory warranty.  If you had someone install a non-standard exhaust, you need to have them go back over the installation.

Suggestion #3:  Though rare, a defective motor mount could do the same thing, transferring vibrations directly to the frame and then the rest of the bike.

Two techs at the dealer took it for a ride. The one said it was normal and they all do that. I said there was know way that was normal
it shook as soon as I picked it up new last week. I noticed the vibration as soon as I shifted into second gear so there's no way it's normal.
The second tech said that the 110 vibrates more than the 103's. I said again that's in no way normal. He said that he didn't have another 110 to compare it to. But he finally said he would contact the area service rep. Haven't heard anything back.

Thanks for the input guys. I will check the exhaust and see what I can find.
