The Mackie 598s are great cams.  I dang near went back with them.  At only 9.8 comp they really worked.  At this higher compression they would probably do even better.  Very quiet for that much lift.  Hit hard on the bottom end.

I was able to get the 662-2 at a good price so I went with them.  I really do like that 598s tho.  Stroker (tuner) says they a damn good cam also.

If I remember correctly Dave recommends 10.25:1 or close to it.  But I've used them down close to where you did too.  Always pulled hard and pulled early.  The 103 to 107 build that I did on the red bike used that cam and was probably the best running combination for street use I ever put together.

My old Road Glide is right now slowly collecting parts for a top end overhaul.  It'll go to 98" with heads and will use that cam with the other work planned around them.  Had thought that would be its winter project this year but haven't had the time.  Sometime sooner than later though.

I'm not so worried about my 117 drop in kit any more. Even if the cylinders are out of round (like many portend), it can't get even close to what you've gone through.

That's not a story it's a nightmare.  Hate to see that kind of history.

Personally curious about one of them even more than the others though.  Your #4 effort showed good numbers.  During it's limited run what did you think of it.  That's a cam I've always liked.

Don, this is worse than your Zipper's story.  Sorry, back to our regular scheduled programming...

I had the same thought Pete.  At least when Zippers zipped me, Sumax ruined a cylinder and Diamond Heads tried to out-Zipper Zippers for egomaniacal vendormania it all happened over the span of two attempts then ended with a great running bike.  His chit is like never ending chunky sand paper abrasive diarrhea.

Now that covers it about as well as I've ever heard it put!

Duane, New builder for the latest build.  The guy that did my 95 build in the 02 SERK & the 113 build in the SESG did the build with all the issues.  The other motors are holding up very well.  +10000 miles on them.  He fell apart during the 117 build.  I had no idea how bad things had gotten.  Praying for the best for him now that I'm not so mad.  Life is short.  The current builder for 6A is an extremely particular man that measures everything.  I tell ya some stories over a cold one.

I'll have about 700 miles on her later today and do another oil change just because.  Wait for it to get to 40* before jumping on.

Chasing # is damn expensive and not all that bright.  Not sure I'd refer to it as a dream...nightmare perhaps

Catch me early Mike.  Mikeytee's refreshments have been known to cause early nighty night time.

RoadDawg, no problems.  I have a couple of "adventure" stories.  Some of them I can share.
