OK, so here's the new badge.
So all I want to know is how in the world is it possible that Harley thought the old RGU badge was anywhere near a proper badge for a CVO, and why the heck is the 2012's badge so much beefier, heavier, larger, and way cooler than the '14 RGU's?
I just don't understand it...

I’m intrigued by your efforts Harry – I never gave much thought to tank badges previously. I think your ‘naked’ tank image looked great and I may consider simply removing mine as Howard mentioned, or maybe getting something custom done as a one-off. Looking forward to seeing the end results on your bike…  :2vrolijk_21:

I hate to admit it, but there was something "pure and unadulterated" about the look of the badge-less tank.  But on the other hand, I'm pleased with the way it looks so far with the new badge installed.  I have affixed the right side badge now, and have painters tape holding it tightly in place for a couple of hours.  I will post a picture of it later today with the new badge less the tape.
I am expecting it to look great compared to the old badge although the "purists" who have chimed in so far about the badge-less look being better may disagree.  To each his own.
It will be a radical change and improvement from the old anemic badges.  I still can't get over how cheap and ugly they were.

Oh and by the way, the new badge comes pre-bent for our 6-gallon tanks of course.  To put it exactly where I wanted it, which was giving it a 3/4" equal distance between the top of the "swoosh" on the badge and the radius of the light blue pinstripe on the tank, I did have to flatten the radius of the bend by about 1/8" or less.  That was no big deal at all.
Otherwise, the thing fits snugly all around.  The eagles head is tight to the tank up front and the rear of the badge where so many of us catch our pants is also nice and tight against the tank.  I did try to induce an inward bend of perhaps 1/8" over the last 1-2" of the badge to make sure the rear-most part of the badge was tight against the tank, which it is.
I think the fit is actually better than the OEM part, if I do say so myself.

Couldn't stand it any longer. The badge came off a lot easier than I expected. A slight pull and a little wd40 and waller, no badge.
I love the look...actually looks "custom" now. Clean as a babies behind.  A little zymol and Beauregard is ready for the town.

Now all you need to do is get a painter that can do a nice script "Harley-Davidson" something like this...

And you'd be all set... heck w/badges/emblems... custom paint rulz. ;D ;D

OK, guys...here's the new look.  You'll have to click on the JPEG below to get the full size impact of it.

Howard, and guys...I admit it...I do like the look without a badge.  There's no denying the simplicity and elegance of it.
But I felt that big dark blue space was begging for something...wild and chrome-ish.

I do like the new badge better than the stock version.  And let's face it, where can you get new chrome that makes such a bold statement for $135 and a couple hours of your time?
Also, how many times do we spend that much or more on chrome and it doesn't make as visible a statement as new badges?
And, this decision is reversible should I decide to swap out for some future look that's even cooler!

It sounds like I may have started a fad with that picture of no badge.  Let's keep the thread going.
If you decided to pull your badges for the naked look, post a picture here!
If you decided to swap them out, might as well post the pics here as well!

Thanks for making this thread interesting, gentlemen!

Kid, I for one think it looks great. But different stokes for different folks. I have the same badges setting at home waiting for installation on my 2015 Limited. That is unless I like the"Naked" look better. And yes you have started something.

That was stock back in '04. :2vrolijk_21: Something (IMO) the MoCo should have kept doing (painted "Harley-Davidson") on their CVO's.
