I once again am pretty sure that no one but Dunlop meets the load rating on the big bikes. I have noticed that the AE's are slightly taller than the HD Dunlops. I have air ride on the rear and with the standard Dunlops it doesn't rub when I dump the air, on the AE's it will not roll?

BigLew
What exactly is the dimensional difference BigLew? Pretty sure the MOCO doesn't cut clearances so closely that a "slightly taller" rear tire would suffer any clearance issues. Are you aware of any rubbing problems?

according to the Dunlop website, the stock d407 has an overall diameter of 26.18'', while the American elite has an overall diameter of 26.20''.  that slightly taller equates to a .01'' difference in radius.  I really don't think your air ride will notice that.

Well maybe you should tell my bike that. Nothing has changed but the tire and when its dumped now it will not roll. Not sure what else could have changed?

That is correct chuck. Ask me what it sounds and smells like at 65 mph when you hit the dump valve by mistake. Dont ask how I know!

BigLew ..........your profile doesn't show what bike you're riding. Are you using the stock CVO air ride shock which came with your bike, or did you switch to another rear shock? I'm not aware of a "dump valve" on any HD stock shocks. Also, are you using the stock tire size?

It is a 09 CVO Road glide. Its not stock by any means. S&S 124 ,procharger FBI drop seat kit among others. But the rear shock height is the same. Put an air ride system on it last year with a compressor and monroe air ride shocks. Just so I can drop it on the ground when parked.

That's a nice ride BigLew. As to your AE tire rubbing on the frame when you "drop it" ........the only thing which makes any sense is that when your air tide system was installed, a hard rubber block which (I believe) limits rear suspension travel from bottoming out was perhaps not reinstalled?!? Just using deductive reasoning.

I Have a 2015 CVO deluxe with OEM dunlops and after running them for 3 thousand miles had enough. Tar snakes feels like riding on ice slip sliding every time I hit them also found that on grooved concrete highways they track bad white knuckle ride. They are unsafe I feel. Ordered a set of metzlers 888 they will be here tomorrow and on they will go. Will give a report about the difference in Tar snakes and grooved highways.

Finally got my AE 180-55/18 mounted on rim, I recommend warming the tire up for those with manual changers. setting it out in the sun for thirty minutes worked for me. I use very little lube while mounting cause I use dynabeads for balance. Now to get some miles on it. I've been running the AE on the front since last year.

While I'm not expecting miracles I am hoping for more even wear.

Not trying to be critical or anything, but you've been on the site since 2006 and are just now figuring out that some people around here "aint right"?  You've obviously not been paying attention.
