Don't mean to belabor bad history.  But you've gone through so much with the painted parts on that bike just what is the total list?  How many of what different items have you had to go through in total (recognizing that you're still not done yet)?

I finally had a chance to put a few pics together of the original paint defects on my bike. Judge for yourself.

Looks pretty sloppy to me, mobe.

Twolane;  Let's see;  3 gas tanks, 4 front fenders, 2 right saddlebags (currently waiting on #3), and 1 front fairing cap, (depends on if they get the first one right), and on my own I bought the large tourpak.   [smiley=drink.gif]

Hey Mrs. We; did your front fairing's paint problems look anything like those shown in the next three pics?  Fortunately these pics aren't mine.  The fairing is listed in an Ebay auction (in case someone is looking for a paint core?) at this link:

Twolanerider, There is no doubt in my mind that this came off my bike.  This is definately the shop I was dealing with. Since they bought me a new one, I have no claim in what they do with my old one,  Now, I did see an absence of mention of supposed broken rods in the ad.  Not my problem, but members of this site,  PM if you have questions.  Thanks Twolanerider for seeing this. Man, you have way more web energy than I do.   [smiley=laugh.gif]

Unlikely if it's warranty.  In a warranty the manufacturer is "buying" the parts and retains ownership of the old ones.  For any of a variety of reasons (R&D on failures, remanufacturing cores, etc) that's the way it's done and the manufacturer's ownership right is in statute (if they choose to exercise it).

They could let an owner keep a part.  But it'd be an "out of the goodness of their heart" kind of thing.  And that doesn't sound like the Harley we all know and love.

More likely is that the dealer just bought the part itself or, if the motor company did kick in on any of it, it was something too expensive to recover any value from so the SOP was to pitch it.

Fortunately it doesn't matter.  Mrs. We got her fairing and she's happy and that is all that does matter. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I just wanted to add my two cents to this thread.  I just got some damage repaired to the top of a saddle bag that occured during a move.  The repair was covered by the mover, but what I found interesting was when the paint shop owner said "I have a suggestion for you", then he said "let's have a look at the bottom of your saddle bag".  He rolled the bag over and low and behold I had more scratched on the bottom of those bags than you could believe.  The owner said "where do you get your bike serviced".  I said "always at the hd shop".  He said "you need to get some rubber pads with adhesive backing then stick them to the bottom to protect your bags".  I said "how did this happen, I have never had the bags off before now"  [smiley=nixweiss.gif].  He said "the hd shops never take care of the bottoms of these bags when they have to be removed for service".  Now im stuck with scratched to #@$# hard bag bottoms.  Needless to say I went out and bought the rubber "stickies" and placed 6 on the bottom of each bag.  I should not have to do this [smiley=brood.gif].  When I pay between $65 - $80 an hour for labor I expect them to pamper my bike  [smiley=furious.gif].

I totally agree with you on this.  I doesn't take but a couple of seconds more to arrange for a safe place to sit the bags while servicing the bike.  My local shop (Shelton's HD) has rubber mats on a cart for this very reason.  Just points out the different approach that different shops employ.  The cream always rises to the top and we should expect a minimum standard from all dealerships. Arrrrgggg! [smiley=furious.gif]
