Looking at a 2916 CVO Limited. MSRP is $39,900. On the tag is also $499 for shipping to be added to the MSRP. Dealer also want $500 for setup. I have purchased 7 HD bikes and never recall paying for setup. The dealer will sell the bike for $36,500 but also wants the $1000 for shipping and setup. Any thoughts?
I was on a trip near ASheville, NC and '11 SERGU crapped a lifter. I had been hearing the noise for a while and rode 600 miles before she quit, so I opted to trade her in while I still had some value as she had 40K on her.
I bought a '16 SERGU and sticker was $41,500. I got her for $36,800 because I knew the '17 were rolling out in September. I am happy with my purchase. We can all wait years for new things to be added to HD, but then we would never buy a new bike.
AS it is with cars....Does not really matter price of vehicle if you are trading in something The bottom line is you have to know what the new bike is worth to you and what the new bike is worth. All the other number are fluff and negotiating tactics.
Could I have had my '11 repaired? Sure still had extended warranty, but I weighed that against a bike with 40K on it and what else will go wrong and then I fast forwarded two years and added 20K miles and realized that was the time to get at least something for the '11. I was also 700 miles from home on day 1 of a weeks riding vacation, so that weighed on my decision too.
This was in July, the wife is now finally speaking to me!
