And Susie, without trying to give too much advice here, as you're deciding what to do, please remember that you have options other than the process MoCo is telling you that you need to follow.

It is more like flaking off; a little bit more flakes off every now and then. So it looks like a chip to the eye of the camara.

I absolutely LOVE my 2004 Cobalt Blue and Black beauty.  Probably the best color combo Harley ever put on a bike!  I can ride it 700 miles a day with no problems.  I have had my share of warranty issues such as chrome coming off both wheels and the two floorboards.  Another issue is the cheap plastic lenses that leak in the front and burn out bulbs.

But I met a good buddy Spider Psychle in NC over the weekend and he and his buddy showed me some nice features of converting the rear turn signals to stop lights and replacing the plastic lenses with chrome bezels.

I wouldnt trade this bike for aything.... and consider that I have a 1999 Kenny Boyce Pro Street FXR that Dave Perewitz spent many hours on last winter painting and tricking out..... it may be fast and real pretty, but good luck when it rains or say goodbye to your butt when you hit 60 miles!

Shiny side up guys!

BadDog, welcome to the forum! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Besides the tip that Don (Twolanerider) gave you about packing the turn signal bulbs and socket with dielectric, you should also condsider changing brands of bulbs from the lousy GE stockers to Sylvania.  I have had zero problems with the Sylvanias in mine, but was blowing GEs constantly until I switched.

Here's an old thread on the subject: http://flhrsei.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1083895298/0#0

Enjoy!

Susie (same as my wife,  but she's Suzy),
I had a problem like yours on a 97 Fatboy (this was a few years ago) with a factory custom color (don't know if you remember the DDR Red ((Stands for Drop Dead Red).  Anyway,  this was the MoCo's first attempt at Powdercoating all tins for a custom color.  Make a long story short,  there were chips starting on the front fender (5 or 6).  I talked to the stealer and they passed me off.  I called the factory (a number of times) and finally got the name of the regional rep.  I pissed up his leg for a few weeks (and I mean be a real pain in the A$$) and finally got them to OK a new front fender.  I guess the point is that they're gonna tell you that it's your fault,  and if it is from road debris,  let it go......but if it's defective workmanship or materials,  it's gonna be a battle......but fight these guys.  They're betting if they run you around long enough,  you'll give up (most do).  They get hundreds of issues like this every week,  and if they get just 10% of them to go away with some run around,  they save tens of thousands........

The Rep came, he saw and called Harley so I am told. When I asked what he said they (the dealership) said Harley will call you in 2 or 3 days and talk to you. Dughhhhh !!! When I said, "what did he say to YOU", they said "nothing he just called Harley, and they will call you.
Can't wait for this call to come!!!

Cowgirl,
Can you post pics or PM me with a pic with the problem.  I have a 05 SEEG (Cherry Bomb) and just bought a set of Banana color paint (whole set).  I wanna look for flaws when it gets here.  It looked perfect when I bought it.......maybe my Cherry Bomb will become a Banana Boat soon.   [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] [smiley=banana.gif] [smiley=banana.gif] [smiley=banana.gif] [smiley=banana.gif] [smiley=banana.gif] [smiley=banana.gif] [smiley=banana.gif] [smiley=banana.gif] [smiley=banana.gif]

Hi My Friends,
Harley Rep was in town and looked at the bike and said that he felt that the chips were caused by extreme force by tying the bike down to a trailer. Never been on a trailer but they said the case was closed by Harley Davidson; they were not going to deal with my  problem any longer. Spoke with the dealership at Buddy Stubbs (Frank Stubbs), who also expressed concern over Harley's comment that they did not feel the recommendation by Harley rep was correct so they would pay 2/3 of the cost to fix the problem which is to repaint the places that have flaked off so it can get settled up and move on. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]
I will still continue to deal with H-D but am taking the bike in today to leave for the painter to repair so I can get on with riddin it.

Wow, the bad service comments are really mounting up around here.  Sorry to hear about that, cowgirl, but that's a heck of a way for your dealer to step up for you.  I hope the repairs turn out to your satisfaction.

Yet another example of arrogance and hubris of the Motor Company.

Does anyone know the difference between cats and dogs?  Dogs look up at you and think "you feed me, you care for me, you provide me warmth and shelter and love, you must be a God."  Cats look up at you and think "you feed me, you care for me, you provide me warmth and shelter and love, I must be a God."

The MoCo looks down on us and acts as if it thinks "you love me, you give me your money, you allow me to act according to my whim and my fancy, you do not force me to change; I must be a God."

The MoCo is a cat.  And even though I've got one, I'm not a "cat person."
